I agree with Max...these can be used in many different locations.

Pete,
you are the magician, I believe we can expect more such nice objects.

The finished building now requires mapping and then I move on to the final parts of this particular
collection, what comes next I do not know yet:

I agree with Max...these can be used in many different locations.

Yes, by making each building within the complex a separate object you should be able to create a variety
of combinations possibly using other game objects to cover churches from many denominations around the
world. ;)

Time to get your paint brush out Max, we need a priest as well. :D

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Hello guys, late last night I decided before I start to map the church I would have a look at what I
could make in the form of a base to try and take away the issue of having a building hang over the
edge of uneven ground:

You will have all seen what I mean when a object is placed in a hilly area of the map and it sticks out
above where the drop is. ;)

Here are a few attempts to compensate for it and improve the look, three different bases each slightly
different:

The texture is by Mixx and the idea is you can alter the texture of the base to suit the map you put the object on.

In use it can prove quite fiddly to get everything positioned so it looks right, however, it does help to some degree.

Hi, Pete,
I think that  some "submerging" the building could help, for exampe like these static.ini entries:

AddHeightLive   -1.2
AddHeightDead   -1.2
AlignToLand     0

together with making the local terrain below the building strictly horizontal, like it is necessary below the railway station.

Hello Uzin, yes I looked at those things, the reason for the terrain piece was if it was impossible to find a completely level plot such as in the mountains then you could use these to try and level up the area around the buildings. ;)

Obviously level ground would be best, however, from looking at images of Armenia it all seems to be mostly mountainous so I was just looking at some alternative ways of of using objects because the full church will be available as one object as well as individual buildings and unless you are actually a map builder and able to adjust the map terrain then some help might be needed to allow the scene to look good.

Anyway, I just wanted to do the experiment so I know what the user might encounter when using the objects, it has been a long time since I did any real map work or campaign building.

All models looking SUPERB !

Glad you like them Max, they still need a proper paint job yet as I am using copy paste at the moment
from some images I took of the original model in Sketchup just to aid the mapping process. ;)

I have made a start on the Church, the tower is mapped, the rear section still to do:

If I move the vertices on to the other buildings you can get a idea of the final look:

I cut in the doorway and the arches in the tower, as I am trying to map each face individually it
took some time and was a little frustrating to do, maybe alpha cut holes might have looked better
for the bell tower but what the hell it is done now.

Once I map the rear I then need to make some more images to add to the template for final placement
of the parts and then on to construction of the other two buildings of the complete church complex. ;)

Hello again, one more building is now complete. ;)

Building D:

Not sure whether I should break each building down into its constituent parts, would that be a better option
for mission/map builders or just make for more unnecessary clutter?

The complex is coming together, there are still two large buildings and a archway to do:

They are looking cool Pete. *2 Thumbs up*   I really like the new models. They all have loads of potential for
making other versions just by adding a new skin to the models.

as for your important question...

Personally I am not a mission builder, but looking at the collection of models we already have,  I would go
for a complete building model, with no extra parts.   We already have so many model parts which can be added
to any model, that its quite easy to create another building just by joining another building to these.

It would probably be time consuming for people to find each individual building parts and then place each piece by hand
to make a church, and on maps there could be 20+ churchs being used all over the map.

So in my honest opinion, one model already built would be much easier to place in a village/town.
Besides, imagine if  something goes wrong with the map-files and the church (or many churchs) look a bit weird with
misplaced parts ?

Hi, Max,
I am not sure if you are right, see RedEye_JIR cathedrals on his Spain maps: he reached higher variability by  chosing modular buildings , especially cathedrals.
In any way I shall welcome any armenian churches with their particular skins, textures.
