Tremendous work, Pete,  8)

Glad you like my new departure into making and adding my own buildings, makes a welcome change for me. 8)

Cutting out the entrance doorways is done, onto mapping next:

Hopefully with a good paint job it will look something like. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Glad you like things so far Gerhard. 8)

Looking at various photographs it seemed like the model needed to be stretched a little and some archways
looked to need widening, one doorway even had to be blocked off.  Certain parts of the structure also had
to be altered, the tower at the end for instance previously was just a small roofed portion jutting out of the
structure but in reality is actually part of a tower at the rear.

Because the building itself is huge trying to find a photograph to use as a guide was difficult because most
shots were taken for visual effect rather than to aid a model maker but I think I can live with what I have
now:

I took the opportunity to also add doors to the arches where I could see them in images and some detail
work to the tower.  Not sure I got the tower detail exact, again, trying to find a photograph up close
proved difficult due to the height of the building, a cross was also added on top.

The actual Cathedral really is a magnificent construction and towers above the local area, must be a sight
to behold when seen up close and in various lighting conditions, photographs cannot do it justice.

As for my model, well, in game at 1000ft and going mach 1 in your Sukhoi it might not look too bad. :D

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Steady on there Ivan, I am too old now to ever be good enough at this to be awarded any prizes. ;)

Do not look too closely at my work or you will see the multitude of faults in it. :D

Thank you very much for the compliment though, really appreciated, if you are happy with it that is great and worth the effort of making it. 8)

Made a start on the texturing, getting this to fit on a single texture might be a problem, I guess
it will keep me out of mischief fro some time. ;)

Rather than try and find textures or use what was with the original model I used to get the dimensions
from I have had a go at making some textures:

The building appears to be constructed of sand stone bricks of various colours, maybe mine are too dark
and need to be paler in hue but at least these give me the chance to scale everything as I map it even
if the brick size might be a little small.

The roofing looks to be some kind of metal corrugated channel construction, strange really for a building of
this type as usually they will have slate tiles, maybe it has been the subject of a recent restoration project
and some of the original construction has been replaced with modern materials.

Everything seems to be so clean on the real thing, unusual for such a large building, I should read up on its history
to gather more information rather than just going with pictures I think.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Glad you like it so far max, sadly as you can see my painting abilities are way below what you and others can produce but I have to map everything and try and scale everything as best I can.

I looked up the Cathedral on wiki the other day and was very surprised at how modern it actually is, built between 1995 and 2004. o_O

Come on Uzin, what is going on here?

A modern Cathedral on your wish list, please tell us what you intended for this model, a jet war map. :o

Anyway, I have started so will carry on, old or modern bothers me not although WWII is my usual interest as
far as the game goes for my 3d model building I suppose anything goes. ;)

Further work has continued as other sections are mapped, here we see the corridors that run through the building:

These take up far more space on the template than I imagined and were made originally because I was not sure how
best to depict this, doors open or closed, if I have the doors closed they can be deleted, however, I thought it might
look better if some of the doors were opened, thoughts please anyone.

Looking at what is still to be mapped I might have to make two textures or divide the Cathedral into two objects:

Take care.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

They have been absent for a few days Max, family issues, my mother has been in hospital. :(

The more I look at photographs and find measurements the more I think changes are necessary.

They are given as:

Length 70.4M
Width 64.7M
Height 87.1M

The model I used as a template is smaller, however, the Cathedral sits on some kind of hill/mound that
has been laid out in concrete blocks/flags with steps and it is difficult to know without a scale drawing
whether elements of that are included.  In one instance the height is mentioned as 100M.

I have tried to scale things again and realised the door ways where rather large when compared to a
game figure so altered things and at the same time changed the front entrance:

The overall scene for comparison, I increased height and used the lower published figure going
from the door floor to the cross on the tower:

My width is more than it should be, however, when scaling it is difficult to get all sections to look
as you would like, anyway, I will leave as is now and finish mapping/re-mapping.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Pete,
your cathedral is so typical for armenian ones that it might be used also for other cities there, such as f.e. Stepanakert in Nagorny Karabagh, which  I am working  on just now:
