adding ships and maps?
« on: September 11, 2018, 03:16:08 AM »

Hi Everyone,

I have just migrated to BAT from DBW and love it. My thanks and congratulations to everyone involved with its production. However I would, if possible, like to add two maps, but I find it difficult to understand the new folder structure as most items are now included within class files.

The maps I would like (primarily as I think the textures are better than default) are the Phillipines (whc), and some alternative textures for Manchuria. Is it possible? If so, how do I arrange the folder struture in BAT?

The ship is Ashe's Caio Duilio. It was installed via a 'shipashe' folder in combination with a separate classfiles folder directly into the #DBW folder. I do understand that ships.ini would also need to be modified.

I have cracked adding planes (I could not do without the Canberra in the jets collection), but am struggling with the above. Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty much got the maps and textures sorted. I now have re-textured Manchuria, Guadalcanal, New Guinea, and the Phillipines map in my installation (mostly wildcat's work).

Caio Duilio, well that's another matter...

Whats the problem with Duillio? Does it not appear at all, even in FMB. Or does it just not appear when you run a mission? Any error messages in the Logfile? Did you add all the text entries for the main guns in ships.ini?

More info needed.

Hi Asheshouse,

This is what I have tried so far, with a ctd at 70% loading in each case.

Installed with the foilowing path:

#WAW3 – ShipAshe – 3do – ships – RMCaioDuilio

I then tried:

#WAW3 – 3do – ships - RMCaioDuilio

I did not use the included class files in either case.

I did not add the gun parameters to ships.ini as they already appeared to be there.

I did add the full ‘[RMCaioDuilio]Description  Regia Marina Caio Duilio – Battleship’ lines to ships.ini before //EOF.

Added the line to stationary.ini (RMCaioDuilio            ships.ShipAshe$RMCaioDuilio             2)

Added the required lines to chief.ini.

Did not add ‘RMCaioDuilio            RM. 'Caio Duilio' BB*’ to technics.ini as there were no other entries (e.g. no Littorio).

Until you have it working take out all the text entries except those in chief.ini and ships.ini

In chief.ini do you have any other entries with the ShipAshe$ prefix?

Unless you have another, later, ShipAshe, model installed already then you will need to add the class files.

What error messages appear in the logfile?

this path is the correct one

this however is kind of hard to understand. Of course you need the class files.

Otherwise the game gets a reference from the ship.ini and dos not find anything there.
->70% ctd. A reference in an ini other than air.ini is wrong

I removed all entries except ships.ini and chief.ini. Many other shipashe vessels in chief.ini, including the US carriers, for example.

Tries two approaches with the class files:

First, left the ‘classfiles’ folder at the same level as ‘3do’ (that’s is how I had it in DBW).

Second, moved the class files from the folder so that they were at the same level as ‘3do’ (this worked when I installed the Kuma LC).

Still get 70% ctd in both cases. Logfile below for first install method above.

How to access the logfile
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13457.msg141587.html#msg141587

I think the code you posted above is a different log?

If you have HMS Furious installed then that includes class files for Duilio. In that case you should not overwrite them with the class files from the “older” Duilio model.

Hi Asheshouse,

Furious is installed as part of BAT. So I did not include the classfiles, and installed with the following path:

WAW3 - ShipAshe - 3do -Ships - RMCaioDuilio. 70% ctd.

I followed the instructions to change config.ini to create a logfile (log.txt), but nothing shows up.

I decided to check this out in my own installation.
Downloaded a fresh set of Caio Duilio files from the Ship Mods section.
Installed in BAT WaW2 folder, as in image below.
Removed classes by cutting and pasting them into a subfolder, which the game will not read.
Put text entries in chief.ini and ships.ini
All works fine for me. Game loads and ship appears in FMB.
Not tried running a mission yet.

Hi Asheshouse,

I have narrowed it down the chief.ini. The ship files (no class files), and ship.ini with the required changes do not crash the game. However, add chief.ini and there is the 70% ctd. Despite me thinking that I have added the required lines correctly.

I would send you a copy of chief.ini for you to check but I don't see how to add an attachement.

When you reply use the option to include code  ---
Code: [Select]

What would be most useful is to show us the text from your logfile.
How to do this is explained here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13457.0.html

The chief ini text should be as follows:
Entry 1
Code: [Select]
RMCaioDuilio          ships.ShipAshe$RMCaioDuilio 2 icons/shipDestroyer.mat

Entry 2
Code: [Select]
[Ships.RMCaioDuilio]
 com.maddox.il2.objects.ships.ShipAshe$RMCaioDuilio

Ensure that the folder structure is correct in WAW2
