I have a hard time rolling down the runway in a straight line.  :D I try to lock the tail wheel but not sure the Yak 1 has that ability. I add rudder and slowly add throttle and next thing I know I'm doing circles down the runway.  o_O

Read the pilot manuals.
The Yak-1 has a tail wheel lock.
The Lagg-3 doesn't have it.
Quite like some other russian kites, it has a steering system with brakes and rudder coupled together.
You apply a bit brake pressure (put the wheel brake on a stick axis, e.g. slider on your X-52 throttle) and steer using your rudder, which will let the brakes act like differential brakes then.

Thanks Mike I'll try it. It can frustrating leaning new things all over again. Thank you for your help.

Pilots manual? I found a download of a pdf but haven't seen that. Mine is a steam version so I'm not sure if it came with it. Probably did but I'm just not finding it.  :-[

IIRC the Yak-1 does have tail wheel lock.
Maybe you mix it up with the LaGG?

Thank you Mike. :)

You're right Sniperton. I was mixing them up. :)

The LaGG has some quirks, it's prone to ground loops due to the lacking tail wheel lock.
Take-off: start rolling with counter-rudder, then, as speed grows, release the rudder gradually to keep course.
Landing: touchdown at stall speed, stick backwards, no brakes until slowing down to 20-30 kph, keep course by applying left and right rudder one after the other ("pumping").
Generally it's useful to watch the ball and briefly counteract with opposite rudder as soon as you see the ball moving. Avoid longer inputs.
Hope it helps.  ;)
