Slower bomb bay doors
« on: May 22, 2018, 02:04:20 PM »

Hi

Since I fly bombers almost exclusively in this game, this one thing always bothered me a bit.
Bay doors ingame open and close at an incredible speed, at around half a sec. Tho I saw real footages of WW2 bombers and bay doors moved slowly. They took even up to 10-15 secs or more to open/close

If it matters, I fly the good ol' 4.12 with hsfx7

Hi.

I understand and agree your feeling.
I also think more slow animation will be realistic and historical for WWII bombers.

But besides it, making its speed slower to historical level might be much difficult by modder / Java coder's eyes.
AI bombing schedule between Java classfiles and each mission / campaign file (official made or players' made) might not consider such historical slow bay door opening.
What AI will behave after door speed tweaking ..... I cannot guess correctly without real changing values and test missions by myself, but possible ..... AI fails bombing because of passing the bombing point in waiting doors opened , or AI begins to drop bombs even the doors have not opened only a bit ?

How do you think ?

Would setting the ground attack option further from target work? When I make missions , the AI hit the ground attack waypoint and they open their bays then travel to the target.

If the waypoint is set further back, the AI should begin to open the bays and be ready by the time they get to the target.

In all missions I played the last waypoint before GAttack was always more than half a minute away (just for who doesn't know: Bombers open their bay doors when passing the waypoint before GAttack)
Also as far as i know bombs can be dropped immediately after pressing the bay door key even if it's not fully open yet

You speak for IA bombers or player piloted bombers?
Player-controlled bombers must be recognized and declared in the Java code to be able to open the bay doors and keep them open.
This is not the case with Mods aircraft.

Actually both
But if only 1 can be done, let it be player

I know sh#t about Java coding, and don't know what's possible, so only you can tell me if it is
