Friendly AI voices
« on: May 15, 2018, 10:12:28 AM »

First of all a great thank you for your answers to my previous questions.

Now I need to understand one thing about my offline friendly AI pilots (voices I hear & subtitles in the center top of the screen):
- if I send an order via TABS i have the correct answer from "my" flight pilots

- but I often hear pilots talking about a flight (altitude, degrees, etc) but it seems to me they are never related to my flight, is that correct ?
- I also hear them talking about enemies 3 o clock low etc ... here again it seems to me they are not related to my flight ...

I suppose that in RL you as a pilot could hear other pilots in other flights too but i suppose they would identify themselves before speaking or it would be a great "casino" ...

So, just to have a confirmation that that is the way IL2 works and, if possible, if there is a way to correct that (I mean only hear them if they are my flight pilots) or not

And, btw, is there a way I could "remove" those pilots speaking (and/or related subtitles) and maintain just the pilots of my flight (answering to my TAB orders) ?

thank you again for all your answers

Blackshark;
Yes, that is the way IL2 works.  In real life there would be various frequencies used between squadrons and organizations (if available) but the game generally "transmits" all friendly comms on the same "frequency".    That is one of the reasons that call-signs were used to help identify who was speaking.  e.g.  "Lockyear" = A Group, 83rd Fighter Squadron, so... "Lockyear leader, bandits 2 o'clock!..." spoken on a congested radio net would help identify which organization is speaking.  Unfortunately the game doesn't model this and you can have a couple (or more) squadrons with Red flights etc therefore more than one "Red 1" on the radio net.

So the chatter you hear will usually be another friendly flight on another mission in another area of the map.

Regardless, you should still check "3 o'clock" etc just in case.  If you don't see anything then you can assume it's another friendly flight talking.
Check your AI that are with you also.  If you hear a "bandits" call and they suddenly break away then you will know that it's your AI flight that is talking.  If they continue to remain in formation and acting normally then, again, that is an indication that the "chatter" is another AI flight.  Also if you hear a British voice and you're flying in a US flight and you know from the mission briefing that the Brits are attacking a target far from you then you can safely assume the chatter doesn't apply to your flight.
The most annoying aspect of this is when there are numerous squadrons getting ready to land.  The chatter gets crazy between the tower and the aircraft.

You can get rid of the subtitles via your confi.ini file.  I can't remember the exact line but if you do a search you'll find it.  I think it's "subtitles=1 (or 0)" or something similar.  I know you can shut off all the AI voice comms too but I don't think it's possible to shut off the voice comms of a specific squadron so to speak.

tutto a posto?

Hope this helps.

Hi Blackshark,

If you are into 4.12 or 4.13 you probably want to check the NG-HUD mod. Check the NG-HUD v2.6 release post.

In v2.6 I reviewed the Radio Chatter Subtitles and messages from your flight Leader will be displayed with a brighter color to get your attention. The rest of the chatter may be for you... or not! (Just like tomoose described)

By the way, I personally like chaos in the heat of the battle. I think it adds immersion ;D

Regards,
