It looks very nice!

Seems to me though that the mountain side is a bit to brownish , in google too  :)
It's funny that I could not find many really clear weather photos with it

I guess it will be piece of cake to make it look more like this :o)

Hi Guys
I have got this link from Uzin...
I think the WhiteCat and Bombsaway are both right...

In my opinion make ideal texture of the city for Il 2 1946 is quite impossible.
One of the reason : Google Earth. The view of the towns and Villages from before years (II WW ) has nothing to do with today.

The gray color of the centers of today's cities is caused by other building materials and architecture... Other asphalt on the streets, other  city building , modern form of industrial building and to many cars on the streets...

I fly many hours every day (medical crew) over Europe and I can watch the land from every position.
I can say : The most natural fields textures for middle and north Europe I have ever seen - are those from Ivan Uzin und Seppel... And the fields from today or before were always fields...
Woods : Terrible on our map... I've never found anything good...
Water and clouds : Absolutely fantastic.

Conclusion: we must know exactly from what period we want to create a map. And only then choose the appropriate textures

Thans WhiteCat, Bombsaway and Ivan for your wonderful work !

Best Regads to all
Darek

PS :  If someone wish I can make  photo or video  of the Earth  from the height of your choice. ( 30000 feet highest )

Hehe yes don't worry, don't focus on the color, it's not that important right now. I will go through the colors, saturation levels, etc in a final pass to make the map better as a whole. You are right, probably it's too brownish. Googling the Sakurajima volcano there are lots of non google-maps pictures and it looks definitely darker and less brownish.

Definitely will take a look to the shape again. I don't like yet the map_H, I want to do the slope growth more smooth like in the picture. But apart from the color & the slopes, the texture shapes should be correct, because even if Google earth lies with the color, it doesn't lie with the shape, the ravines, etc.

Hey darky thanks for the feedback, many interesting comments here:

That was one of my main reasons I don't like other Kyushu repaints. But on the other hand, I think Kyushu was less rural than I thought originally, and Cyberolas' Singapore city textures are not going to work properly I am afraid. It's hard to find 1944-45 aerial pictures of Fukuoka and Nagasaki, but I managed to find a high altitude spy-plane pic in black/white of Fukuoka, and although the whole Fukuoka valley wasn't built as it is today, it was quite a big and industrious city already, with lots of squared streets, so probably a texture from an European city would fit better than Cyberola's Singapore. Or I can try make one, but the thing is, I love Cyberolas' city textures, I think he is a magician on that. I may try Smolensk or something like that.

OK, learned a few tricks tonight:
- Remembered how to extract SFS files and got the original map_H ;)
- Instead of using airbrush to edit map_H, I use now 1 pixel pencil, and then I blur the slopes to eliminate 'steps' in the mountain
- Better color for the volcano now, less brown and more ash. Still I think it can improve and make it more like in the pictures before.

But overall I think Sakurajima looks better now, I am finally taming volcano craters :D look:
