Tasman Sea Version 3: "utterly final"
« on: May 02, 2018, 12:06:34 AM »

"Utterly Final" Map for BAT Il2 Pathfinder TGA3 & WAW3:
Title:  Tasman_Sea  [ver 3.0]

see earlier notes in WIP maps thread.
New link for ver3:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/s6zai556uf5k6hr/utterly_final_Tasman_Sea_ver3_by_f_f.7z

instruction for BAT ver 3.3 install:
in the MAPS folder of BAT you will find the all.ini file.
In the section headed
**__PACIFIC_AND_ASIA__**             Netmountains/load.ini
add this line:
Tasman_Sea   Tasman_Sea/load.ini
You must do this twice: once in #WAW3, and once in #TGA3, to run both versions of the map [1931 & 1942].
maps and textures must also be installed twice in BAT, but missions only once.
happy navigating

Ver 3 Notes
compared with ver2, Ver 3 has:
1) improved appearance of airfield & taxi surfaces, with removal of most grass plates, as per  SAS topic at https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,49730.12.html, reply 13.
For this purpose, a  new airfield  texture "Generally_airfield_grass.tga" is included as "airfield3"  of the load ini [thanks to CzechTexan  for this texture].  Also, the ver 3 airfields include  some minimal additions of new objects.
2) several textures de-googled - apologies for missing those earlier [new bump files included].
3) all  ocean-going trees removed - a curious task!
4) updated version of the one WAW3 mission is supplied, renamed as "WAW_Glenn invadesB" . This mission also includes some new objects, on a couple of airfields.
[NB: this mission runs in the early morning fog. To better appreciate the beautiful textures of this map, suggest re-run this mission starting at 0930, with yourself piloting the Harvard, on a joy flight.
5)  mountain object reinstated on Philip Island, some bridges, roads improved slightly, etc

Congratulations on the new map!
Generally_airfield textures should be credited to cyberolas.  I just changed the coloring a little.  I shouldn't be given credit for any textures because most of the textures in my maps are derived from other map-makers.

Thanks for this next piece of art! Works in DBW too. I am even moved by it cos my dad was sailing there aboard German Auxilary Cruiser "Orion". (Still hoping for this ship to be made for our game btw.).  He would have loved this game and this map in particular. R.I.P.   ]salut[

re "...Generally_airfield textures should be credited to cyberolas. "
Thanks CzechTexan, for pointing that out.
I will update this texture credit in the next [= post - "utterly final"] version of the map, and its missions.

Thanks for this next piece of art! ....
thanks for your kind remarks. Pleased to hear the map works in DBW.
I am planning to produce  new missions for it - some inspired by the extensive Tasman Sea exploits of Nobuo Fujita [Feb/Mar 42].  But I'd also like to include at least one mission with a German vessel.
Very interesting to hear of your Dad's naval involvement in this part of the world.
I'm sorry that the ship "Orion" is not in our game. Is there any comparable vessel I could use as a stand-in?
yours, f_f
ps speaking of Dads: my Dad met Mr Fujita in Japan [46-48], when part of the British occupational forces.
