Map of Cuba
« on: May 29, 2010, 03:00:04 PM »

I've been asked several times if it would be possible to make a map of Cuba, or a part at least. So I thought it might be a good idea to try the area around the Bay of Pigs.

This map is not populated, except with a tucked away airfield so that the map is flyable and saveable. Nor do i really plan on populating it either, at least not until other maps are finished first. So this one is for those who requested it, one or two of whom I believe offered to populate as well. So here it is for anyone who wishes to try a hand at populating.

The map looks very nice by the way, with, as a premiere for me, actual textures from the map area as from satellite images. So these fields textures are from more or less the same areas in Cuba taken from Google Earth. That doesn't happen all that often I've found. The predominant color theme is also a bit different from other maps.

The map is also in 2/1 scale, that is at 200%. I did it on a whim to see how it would look, though this time not because of a predominant mountainous terrain. If anything, Cuba seems to be a rather flat place with lots and lots of cultivated fields.

I'll get some screenshots up later ...

You and I must be thinking the same at times. I recently made a very full map of Cuba with Jamaica and some of Haiti The mountains are pretty impressive on Haiti and some areas of Jamaica. it also has some islands off the US Coast. If your interested in this map as well let me know I'll send you a link.
Downloading now interested to see your textures.

Thanks for the other Cuba map files. Downloading them and am curious to see how this map looks.

Meanwhile, here are a few screenshots to give an idea how the map looks.

Nice screen shots agracier 8)

Here's my full map of Cuba/Jamaica/Haiti

It's a ClockWatcher's style of map.

I've used your Australia load.ini in it. This load.ini tends to work on any map just to get it loaded.

I've also included 4 bmp's from Microdem.

Not stealing your thread I thought you might want this map for later on.  :D

The more maps the better ... never enough maps ... nor never enough members to populate them either ... a conundrum for sure ... ha ha

Thanks.

Wonderful map, Thank You.

Don't forget, the map isn't populated yet. It was put here so that whoever asked me to make a Cuba map, could pick it up to download and populate.

That said, some dogfighting or maybe some photo recon missions would be nice to have.

And on another note, if anyone has any info on airfields in Cuba, you may always post it here so that perhaps some airfields can be put in ...

In my uploading hast I forgot to mention that I have not put any objects on this map to make it flyable in the normal fmb.

At the moment it is strictly a map making version map.

I may change that perhaps in a few days.

There is no actors static in the map folder at the moment.

Not on this map I'm afraid ... like most everyone else I am busily engaged in bringing a 4.10 install up to speed of course, and am at the moment working with kapteeni on a map of Karelia.

Cuba is a map that I would like to finish very much. But it's a large map and we need to get/make some good templates for villages and towns first ... and Cuba is a bit different in that regards from other maps we've done before ...
