VIDEO: B-26 Pre-Invasion Mission, - Cherbourg..revisited!
« on: October 31, 2017, 08:42:45 AM »

Debrief:  Target: Oil Tanks - Cherbourg, France.
We missed'em the 1st time.
Weather: Poor
Bombing Altitude: 10,000 ft.  Speed: 200 mph
Accuracy: Good but a little wide - Target 60% destroyed.
Flak: 88s - Light due to cloud cover - but accurate.
Attacked by 4 German fighters - Bf-109 collided with a B-26.
Remaining fighters bugged out because of our massed guns and took off chasing a B-26 that broke formation ( "Flak Pole" ).
It was never seen again and neither were the fighters.
4 B-26's lost - 6 Damaged
This is just a small mission by a small group.
During World War II, as we all know, thousands of such missions took place on all sides.
I can only imagine the bravery it took to do it again and again.
Reply here if you want me to email you the mission code.
Required: 4.12.2

Channel Map
B-26 with working bomb sight
Determination to take off, stay tight with the group, press the attack and make it home.
 -  it takes approx. 3/4 of an hour.
