Desert Storm (Iraq 1990-91)
« on: September 28, 2017, 03:41:14 AM »

Hi guys, I'm back at editing maps and here's my new project!  ;D
Basically I'm editing the fantastic Agracier & Co. 1941 Iraq map to fit it for the Desert Storm scenario.
I've started this project because of the many Jet Age mod that came in these years and I think that Iraq is a fantastic battlefield for them.
Moreover in this map there's also the border with Iran, this let us recreate also the 1980-1988 war that happened there.
The only dowside of this project is the absence of Kwait City and Baghdad.
Now here's a little pic, a modernized airfield near Basra.

PS: Obviusly whoever would like to help is very welcome!

It would be great stiv but the map would be too big for the game.

Here's the border between Iraq and Kwait, with Rhawdata on the background:

there is a map of Meguido, there is a bit of Syria. Still, Afghanistan, who did it. There the fighting went on in 1925, 1979-1989 and from 2001.

Thank you Vampire_pilot!

And here's the Highway of Death for the groundpounders to enjoy!

I've used the excellent Highway mod by  western0221, however I need to re-skin it to give it a more desert look.

I've also edited the Iranian desert, trying to remove the repeated texture effect...

Whoa!
This looks great already.
While building my missions I found one of the biggest draw backs of the map is that essential cities are missing or lacking. Clearly all was much smaller in the 40s.

Basra could need some more extension to the west - ground texture is there but no houses.
Khoramshar and Abadan are missing almost completely, I build both with objects for the missions.
Same for Susangerd, Dezful or the like.

I have a few great templates for oil refinieries so that was actually the easiest, just copy and paste objects.

I totally agree, infact I've increased the size of some town and villages, like Rhawdata and Al-Busayyah, but I still have a lot of work to do.
Your templates would be extremly usefull, if we can find a way to traslate them from the "standard" FMB to the expanded one that I'm currently using.

If you are interested however, I can send you a beta version of the map!  :D

In the meanwhile I've also edited the desert texture, so that now is more similar to the real one.
