Il-2 Ultrapack on Linux (wine)
« on: August 26, 2017, 07:16:13 AM »

Hello, friends
My OS arch-Linux
I installed the Il-2 Sturmovik 4.10.1 and UP3
Everything works great ( wine ./il2fb.exe )
But when I install the ultra-pack and run the modified IL-2, the console displays an error: "HotSpot Virtual Machine Error, Internal Error"

I'm not using Linux myself, but there has been one very informative thread dealing with BAT on Linux (Ubuntu) a while ago: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,55959.0.html
In there Storebror reported UP3 to be working for him and how he got there .. so you might want to have a look at it.

I listed a few notable posts of said thread below:
Hope that helps .. if not, you'll have to wait for someone with actual Linux experience :P

Best Regards,

I've also added the hints to WineHQ's AppDB as this is the central spot for windows games on linux to me:

My OS is arch-linux. Wine 2.15.
winecfg: configure msvcp71 as "Native" and msvcr71 as "Native", "dinput" as "Native, Builtin".
I installed the il-2 v.4.10, then 4.10.1. Then UP3RC4 and Patch Pack 210.
And now il-2 works fine.

Can I now install 4.12-4.13.4?
Could anyone use the Opentrack with Il-2 under Wine ?
Can I use the joystick axis to control the view?

now il-2 works fine.
Thanks for confirmation ;)

Can I now install 4.12-4.13.4?
Basically yes, but I'd do so with a separate game folder.
Ultrapack 3 is strictly IL-2 4.10.1 and having several base game versions in the same folder is not for the faint of heart.

Could anyone use the Opentrack with Il-2 under Wine ?
Sorry, no own experience here.
Head tracking is difficult with Wine, I couldn't get my TrackIR to work reliably.

Can I use the joystick axis to control the view?
No, not that I know of.
Mouse or headtracker, that's what works - or "keys", which includes e.g. POV switches on your stick if it has one.

Install Ecran Wide mod to Ultrapack and setup your native screen resolution in conf.ini accordingly.

Make sure to set "SaveAspect=0" and if you use your native screen res, "ChangeScreenRes=0".
A full set of settings in the "[window]" section of conf.ini for FullHD would look like this:

Code: [Select]
[window]
width=1920
height=1080
FullScreen=1
ChangeScreenRes=0
SaveAspect=0
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
DrawIfNotFocused=1
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
Use3Renders=0
WideScreenFoV=1

Arch-linux:

Create new WINEPREFIX:
Code: [Select]
WINEPREFIX="/home/user/.wine_32" WINEARCH=win32 wine winebootwinecfg: configure msvcp71 as "Native" and msvcr71 as "Native", "dinput", "dinput8" as "Native, Builtin"
Start opentrack:
Code: [Select]
env WINEPREFIX="/home/user/.wine_32/" /programms/opentrack/bin/opentrackStart with wine-protocol (TrackIR)
Start IL-2
Everything works great !
