Thanks Whistler. Perhaps the thing i did wrong was to 'set' each aircraft's last waypoint to the DZ object. This automatically changed their waypoint to a Ground Attack. Maybe there is no need for that so it caused problems. I must experiment more.

yes... that was it... no need to set waypoint to the DZ object nor make it a ground attack
works now
