DHC-1 Chipmunk
« on: May 17, 2017, 10:51:18 AM »

DHC-1 Chipmunk

The de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk is a tandem, two-seat, single-engined primary trainer aircraft developed and manufactured by Canadian aircraft manufacturer de Havilland Canada. It was developed shortly after the Second World War and sold heavily throughout the immediate post-war years, being typically employed as a replacement for the de Havilland Tiger Moth biplane.

The Chipmunk holds the distinction of being the first postwar aviation project conducted by de Havilland Canada. It performed its maiden flight on 22 May 1946 and was introduced to operational service that same year. During the late 1940s and 1950s, the Chipmunk was procured in large numbers by military air services such as the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), Royal Air Force (RAF), and several other nation's air forces, where it was often utilised as their standard primary trainer aircraft. The type was also produced under licence by de Havilland in the United Kingdom, who would produce the vast majority of Chipmunks, as well as by OGMA (Oficinas Gerais de Material Aeronáutico) in Portugal.

This one is based on SAS~CirX's Miles Magister M14A. Thanks to SAS~CirX and to all involved with bringing us this aircraft.

new DL link for SPP provided by Dona in reply #41 below. Many thanks!

In this update you'll find that the Chipmunks now have a new cockpit as well as the canopy
now opens in the proper direction.
I've enclosed the new skin folders with the appropriate skins in them as well.

   From the new readme

Code: [Select]
de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk own slots WIP.

3D model:  Edlor.

Slots:  Pete Shaw aka Mission_bug.

Notes:

Uses the decompiled class from the Magister by RAF_Magpie renamed for the Chipmunk (original classes by Charlie Chap with FM by RAF_Magpie and No457_Foxtrot.

The cockpits are from the Z-26 by Stoupa with the classes decompiled and renamed for the Chipmunk.

Blister java was used from the Z26 as the canopy opened the wrong way using that in the Magister.

The FM uses the MagM14A fmd and DH_Series emd renamed for the Chipmunk, no changes were made to the entries inside the files other than to tie them to the Chipmunk.

Only the port flap was working so additional entries have been added to the java for each of the flap meshes in the plane folder.

I believe the original classes were 4.10 and were recompiled in that environment.

The aircraft displays eratic behaviour in the landing pattern, I do not know if that is a java or FM problem but quite a lot of mods suffer from it.

SSP included.

Put the folder 'de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk' into your mod folder and add the following entries:

air.ini:

DHC_Chipmunk        air.DHC_Chipmunk             NOINFO  gb01  SUMMER
DHC_Chipmunk_MK22      air.DHC_Chipmunk_MK22        NOINFO  gb01  SUMMER

If you wish to use the Self stationary Plane add the folder 'PS_DHC_Chipmunk_MK22_SSP' and/or 'PS_DHC_Chipmunk_SSP' to your mod folder and add the following entries:

[Self_StationaryPlanes]

DHC_Chipmunk    vehicles.planes.DHC_ChipmunkStatic$DHC_Chipmunk    1
DHC_Chipmunk_MK22  vehicles.planes.DHC_Chipmunk_MK22Static$DHC_Chipmunk_MK22    1

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.  June 2017.

Note there is no damage model for this as of yet.

Cheers,

Edlor

You're very welcome guys and the kind words are greatly appreciated. :)

A new slot would be great Max but I'm surprised your throat isn't sore from all the shouting you've been doing lately. Maybe we should keep things down to a dull roar from here on.  :D :D ;)

Cheers and thanks again all,

You're very welcome guys.   :)

I was fortunate enough to have been taken up in my Fathers friends Harvard at the age of 12. So I can relate to how you must have felt going up in a Chipmunk heaven17. Good memories those were. ;)

Cheers,

Ed

Gees Edlor do you get a chance for a few hours sleep occasionally  :D ;)

Really awesome to have a classic Canuck aircraft in the game.

I also truly agree with Max as well.  :D

Great work on this aircraft  :D Not a great deal of trainers are in the game.

Cheers,

Kirby

Sleep?? What's that?  :D :D

Thanks and glad you like it Kirby.  ;D

I agree there should be more trainers because they were an integral part of any air force. I have a few more in various stages of assembly so hopefully they'll come to light soon.;)

Cheers and thanks again,

Edlor
