This is the most amazing piece of work. I finally got around to downloading and installing this. Thank you so much Monty and team for all the hard work you put into this. It is truly stunning.

Thank you so much !!!!!

Fast question for Monty. I prefer to set my conf file to forest=3.

Do a lot of the campaigns include manually added trees which I will miss out on if I set my conf file to forest=3 ?

Thanks - jg1234

No mate.  I actually prefer Forest=2.  Its only on some of the WWI middle eastern maps where Forest=3 plants too many trees and they start to appear on the runways!  So I leave it at Forest=2.

Monty
Fantastic work and thank you. I am a long time player but I am really struggling in the Crisis campaign. First two missions all 8 of the 109s gang up on me every time I play, whilst all my AI colleagues bugger off after the dornier. The only way I can hope to survive is climb in the opposite direction before the 109s attack, let the fur ball develop and dip in for the odd squirt. Eventually nearly all my squadron are shot down and I head off home with 8 109s on my tail.
I know this is a limitation of the AI but when they get to veteran level they can pull off 600m high g deflection shots every time..
It's a challenge for sure but takes away from the immersion as I am retreating before I even get into the action..
Any tips from experts on handling the AI. I found 4.10 too easy!!!

Hello Peachy

After numerous attempts, I took off immediately and flew flat out to get ahead of the other Spits and shoot and skoot the Dornier in mid channel. Then bug out of there heading N.W. as fast as poss back to base, before the pesky 109s turn up - get into holding pattern West of Margate and allow other Spits to engage 109s. Then go back and mop up any stragglers.

Then back to base and a careful landing - don't ruin all the hard work by a crappy landing....!

Good luck, B9

Man these campaigns really drive home how incredibly shit the AI in this game is, we complain about the AI in il2 box, but good lord, watching a mk1 spit climb into me turn immediately behind me and then annihilate me is insanely frustrating, not to mention it seems like half the squadron tries to solely shoot you down. The UFO AI in this game really destroys any fun to be had.

Is every single spitfire pilot an ace?

Actually, the Spitfire is my nightmare.

And yes, set a spitfire pilot to anything above average and they are ace of aces, combined with an aircraft that bleeds  almost no energy, is exceptionally fast in level or climb, dives straight to the barrier of sound, pulls 10 g in a turn and then shoots you at a 90 degree deflection.

As a campaign maker, I always handle Spits by making them one experience level below what I intend, to ensure the AI at least misses a shot here and there or make some stupid mistake now and then, enabling a  pilot to get a hold of them.
Going against a  spit on Ace is no fun playing for me. I usually manually edit missions that are built like this to enjoy them better

However, flying on the same side as them.... another story :)
