 Hi there Henkypenky,
I have done a good number of Spits, but not any Black and Whites to date.
Just checking, I have done 54 SQN,74 SQN, 56SQN  and 501 plus several other units.
Lots of photos as well as profiles including a family members pics. He did not fly during
the BOB, but was operational a year and a half later on Spits.
Being a modeler as a young kid I remember questioning him about Spit and Hurri camo and markings. He would tell me I was doing fine and not to worry. He laughed and said, the most important thing was getting those damaged aircraft that they deemed serviceable back in the air
and that if someone came out on the flightline and questioned the placement of codes on a aircraft
to the ground crews that he would be eaten for breakfast. They were having none of that during those terrible months.
I appreciate you taking the time to post this, and will find out what Spit units were still using the Black and whites with no under wing roundels .
I will make sure we have some. There is still time.
All The Best

I have used some isolated examples.  Because what also has to be understood about that time is the fact that initially production did not keep up with demand. - As a result many older aircraft were pressed into service and running repairs produced further anomalys.  eMeL made some brilliant examples of wierd individual Spits, along with many others, some with tiny roundels or odd unfamiliar markings.  These are all part of the mix, especially for the desperate days between mid-June and August 1940, by which time a lot of the markings and schemes became more standardised and newly manufactured aircraft began to reach the flightlines in greater numbers.

Hi RDDR an Monty, yes, getting them back in the air was the most important thing back than. And there's a lot of weird info around on camouflage and markings. But in general these airplanes where industrial products, fabricated to standard specifications, so they all looked more or less the same. That was the point I was trying to explain. I do know that you take things seriously, and I just wanted to point this out, would be shit if all the skins would go wrong and I didn't say  :(

Hey Monty - Are you going to populate Luftwaffe airfield as much as the RAF airfields? I hope those of us that fly for the "other side" don't have to suffer with empty bear airbases to save FPS. :)
