##### B.A.T. Skin Collection v3
« on: December 22, 2016, 02:20:22 AM »

B.A.T. Skin Collection v3

v1: 543 Aircraft / 5.807 Skins!
v2: 585 Aircraft / 6.925 Skins!
v3: 700 Aircraft / 8.542 Skins!

C.U.P. changed forever the IL-2 modding landscape by compiling most of the mods, old and new, in a super-pack never seen before. Many aircraft slot names changed and my personal skin collection felt a little out of control. I decided to start fresh but, where do I start? I decided to download and extract for my personal use all skins released in the most renowned mod-packs, skin compilations and campaigns.

Good care was put in deleting empty folders, removing non-skin files, and renaming hundreds of folders to match C.U.P. air.ini(s) slots. The result was quite satisfying and I decided to share it with the community. Shortly after the first C.U.P. Skin Collection was set free, B.A.T. was released and the skin collection updated.

The result you see today is that there are more than 8.500 classic, old low-res and new hd skins ready to fly in the skies of B.A.T. This is a collection of previous compilations: nothing was left out without a good reason (aircraft not compatible or not available yet in B.A.T.), and I did not add any extra skin myself. I would like to credit each and every skin creator but that is just not possible. Some skins come with signatures, others don't. My deepest respect, admiration and gratefulness to all IL-2 artists.

All folders included in this collection are compatible with B.A.T. but that does not mean all skins are compatible with the aircraft! I did not check them all and there may be old skins that no longer fit newer mod versions... Oce again, credits go to the respective skin creators, I just compiled for B.A.T. previously released packs. I hope nobody finds it inconvenient in any way.

What Skins are included?

Version 2 comes with around 1.100 new Skins not found in version 1, and it includes all previous fixes. If you already downloaded v1 please excuse I do not provide incremental downloads: it is difficult to keep track of changes when we are talking thousands of skins. Version 2 also comes with all official B.A.T. Skins up to Expansion Pack 7, in case you want to start a fresh Skin collection (you should already have at least all official IL-2 skins up to v4.12.2)

Version 3 comes with more than 1.600 new Skins not found in version 2, and it includes all previous fixes. If you already downloaded v2  please excuse I do not provide incremental downloads: it is difficult to keep track of changes when we are talking thousands of skins. Version 3 also comes with all official B.A.T. Skins up to Expansion Pack 11, in case you want to start a fresh Skin collection (you should already have at least all official IL-2 skins up to v4.12.2)

You do not require version 1 or 2. Version 3 includes all skins from previous collections, plus fixes.

Download, unzip, move. You do not need all 4 zips at once, you must extract each one separately.

VOIDs have been removed from the main packs, but can be optionally downloaded here:

Please report any wrong skin for the benefit of others. The B.A.T Skin Collection is a compilation from many different sources, and not all Skins were tested. Skins not compatible with B.A.T. will be taken care of via fixes

Download the file below if you downloaded any previous Skin Collection. It will fix many skins (in example the old Cessna model skins). You can run the file as many times as you require.
Download the file above, place it in your Skins folder, run it once, and delete it. You can open the file with a text editor to see what gets done (fixed).

No need to say that many skins are sometimes compatible with other variants of the same aircraft, if you like one particular skin or skin set that is not available for one type, you can try duplicating and renaming the aircraft skin folder to that other aircraft slot... it may work!

Hi Gaston,

I did not change any skin, anything that was included in the packs/compilations described in the topic are now part of these packs. You will find there are HD skins there, in example the short-sunderland comes with 12MB skins! and yes, I noticed myself a slight delay while loading these skins... but you know what? low-res skins remain low-res skins no matter what, but HD skins can be easily resized to lower resolutions!

If you search for *.bmp files, and order the results by size, you will see all HD skins...

Captain, if there is one single skin in these packs that you did not already have, then mate it was well worth the effort! Remember this was put together with C.U.P. in mind.

I noticed that the complete CUP set comes with as little as 125 skins, and that was a good decision: skins can be added later anyway and CUP does not grow in size unnecessarily. Skins are also a matter of personal taste, and while the default skins are always top quality I thought we should have more choices. On the other hand this is a way to preserve aging but good-looking skins (there are in these packs skins dating back 2001).

We can further refine these sets focusing on quality or we can build upon it. It would be cool to have (as a starting point) a few, just a few, top-quality theater-defining skins for EACH and EVERY aircraft available in CUP... but that takes time, research, knowledge and more importantly, brave decision making!

Again, this is a collection of previous compilations, nothing was left out without a good reason (aircraft not compatible or not in CUP), and I did not add any extra skin myself. I would like to credit each and every skin creator but man, that is just not possible. Some skins come with signatures, others don't. My deepest respect, admiration and gratefulness to all IL-2 artists.

I want to extract the whole two files into my paintschemes\skins folder. Will the game intelligently load only the corresponding skin folders to the entiries it finds in air.ini or does the whole folder get loaded?

Hey SGT68, not sure I understand your question. I believe having 17.000 or 0 skins makes little difference performance-wise (other than disk fragmentation). The engine reads the aircraft folder and/or skin only when it needs to.

You select an aircraft - the engine reads the aircraft folder for available skins and loads the current skin
You start a mission - the engine loads all flyable/AI aircraft skins for that mission
...

A skin guru or engine expert can confirm this.
