How ro smooth map_H.tga edges
« on: November 13, 2016, 04:04:45 AM »

As you fly to the edges of the map, especially in mountainous area, you will see abrupt change of terrain height to zero level - a threshold. This unnatural view can be depressed by the following procedure.

1. Open map_H.tga file
2. Make empty layer above it.
3. Make 50 pixels wide frame having  RGB=0 at the edges of this empty layer .
4. Apply the Gimp function Filter/Noise/Pick   several times to this frame layer.
5. Apply Gaussian blur  set to 3 , maybe more than once.
6. Merge the layers, Flatten Image and Save As new map_H.tga.

Maybe this step-by-step procedure helps to somebody.

EDIT:
Credits are to Mixx who teached me to smoth the map_H.tga edges.
Above procedure is mine.
