Haven't played IL2 in ages, where do I start?
« on: October 02, 2016, 09:37:21 PM »

I remember playing with the history SFX mod, and SAS, and All Aircraft Arcade mod... What's popular these days? I would like to play a dynamic campaign in the Pacific, where should I start with modifying the game?

Maybe an 'all in one' mod like CUP?

You can install the module/s of your choice.

Browse the selection of campaigns available on this site, and here http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&c=1 .  it will always tell you which modpack is needed/optimized to run the campaign:
its usually

HSFX
VPModpack
DBW
CUP
4.12.2 + mods (which means Modact 5.3)
4.13 variants

Sometimes you will find a 'shopping list' campaign... one that not only tells which Modpack to use but may also give a list of additional mods that are needed to run the campaign. Best to ignore these to begin with, and find the campaigns that give you everything you need within its parent modpack.. Pacific Theatre is more than well catered for... say goodbye to any family life you might have !

Approach it that way having downloaded the campaigns that you will enjoy..

please ensure you download and read the manual thoroughly BEFORE installing anything, note you will require MME before installing ANY of the other optional modules.

I suggest reading through this as well as the manual https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47647.0.html

There have been lots of issues with incomplete or incorrect installs of CUP, usually because people DONT read the instructions and then blame the makers when it doesnt work.

Have fun

I've been reading the install instructions on the download page and inside of the individual RAR files. Currently installing MME while downloading WAW

I got it working, but since I can't get my joystick's POV hatswitch to ork with pan view, I have to try to figure out this facetracknoir thing.

+1

Look under SNAP VIEW and PAN VIEW settings in game control menu.

Under SNAP VIEW, the first setting is TOGGLE SNAP PAN VIEW, set that as well, then you can toggle
it in case you want auto centering of the view under snap, or smooth panning, it's handy.

I find that it helps to delete the PAN / SNAP view settings you don't use or want.
