On-map trees vs. Forest textures...
« on: April 30, 2010, 12:02:52 PM »

Just saw this over at AAA:

http://www.allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27580

It's an interesting idea - using pop up trees instead of the 2-D layered forest textures. For one thing it would make attacking ground targets in forests more feasible and cause fewer headaches with the AI crashing into the treeline. Does anyone know if the pop-up trees in game count towards the total on-screen object limit, or are they separate? Is there a way to tell the game which trees to use for summer / winter?

This is also supposed to save frame-rates, but I would have thought it would do the opposite because of the increased number of objects...anyone know for sure?

This seems kind of like the method used in DCS Black Shark or Lock On, with dense but individual trees instead of "carpets" of forest.

Thanks,

CY6.

Hello Check

Just to tell I tried his Kuban map.
Installed  as he said and played QMBPro modified quick missions, but I can't see any trees poping up.Just not quite like the pictures he posted.I am on UP2.01.Kuban is quite desert !Looks like he's right when he said that he didn't test it on a mod pack.
