Flying Tigers Battle for Rangoon - updated
« on: August 23, 2016, 05:58:33 PM »

RangoonTitle by CzechTexan, on Flickr

Fly with the American Volunteer Group "FLying Tigers" to help the British Commonwealth forces control Burma and protect the Burma Road to China.

The campaign has been updated for use in IL-2 1946 412.2 or above.
There are two extra missions added to this update which makes a total of 26 missions.

You will fly the Hawk81A-2 for all three squadrons -
"(1st, white stripe) Adam and Eves"
 "(2nd, blue stripe) Panda Bears"
 "(3rd, red stripe) Hell's Angels"

Before each mission, look at the "arming" screen to see which squadron you will be in and then pick an appropriate skin for that squadron.
Note: The "Leaping Tiger with wings" decals on the sides of fuselages were not available until March 1942. This campaign ends in March so, if you want to get technical, choose a skin without the Leaping Tiger.

hey Max and Kirby!  Your excitement makes me smile ha!  I really enjoyed updating this campaign.  I'm astonished at myself for not doing this project sooner...but there are so many other things to do!

Here are some thoughts about this campaign...
Taking off in pairs now makes it more playable.  There  is no taxi to takeoff though.  Each mission was tweaked with my more experienced knowledge of mission building - since the original campaign was made seven years ago!

I included Tigers skins made by Leadspitter.  I really liked them because of the heavily weathered look they have.  Burma is a dusty dirty place!
I would also recommend (if you don't have already) going to the M4T skins page for the Hawk81A-2.  There you'll find more skins by other talented authors.

Several new Japanese skins also help the look of their aircraft.  Plus, the addition of the Ki-50 and Ki-48 (thanks to those Modders!) makes things more realistic (I used J. navy planes originally).

Lastly, the BurmaLower map(s) have improved so much over the years.  Granted, they are not the greatest, but it's better than nothing, right?  It is nice to be able to make missions on an actual map of the area - as opposed to faking it with a map of a different area.  Mingaladon's taxi problem has been fixed.  I'm surprised that I didn't notice the error before...must have been an accidental delete after it was completed.

Oh, and thanks to Chris_Blair for making the mission template with objects for Mingaladon and the Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon.  Things look much better with 'em.  I didn't want to add too  many objects for playability but, overall, I think the Rangoon area has a good look now.

Just had a quick look myself. For C.U.P. works straight off the bat but with an older version of the Burmah Lower map.

For VP modpack you will need the Ki-51 Sonia mod, plus the latest Burmah Lower map. See these links:

Hope that helps

Bergkamp, you're right about getting those mods as mentioned in the first post.

About C.U.P., I don't use it so I don't know, but are you able to add the new version of the map to CUP?

I haven't had any probs in the past manually adding maps to my CUP pack. When installed, the new version of your map will just load over the old map that is in the CUP sfs map mme module. The map and .tex folders go into the existing map mods folder. The all.ini line is already in the all.ini file. Just be aware that if the upgraded map is included in future CUP map expansions, the manual install can be removed.

Bergkamp, the map file ( with the Actors.static + Text + Pictures + Labels + map.c-tga ...) do not go inside the #WAW/MAPMODS/MAPS/cztx_BurmaLower_1942 that actually exists?
The SFS_Maps folder is just for sfs files, not for other types,  or am I wrong?

I had put it inside the #WAW folder and it works.

Hi Cafs,

Sorry if you misunderstood. You are correct that the NEW version map and all of its associated folders go into your existing #WAW/MapMods/Maps.

I just mentioned that the OLD version exists in MME in SFS format and will be overwritten by putting this NEW version in your MapMods folder.

If, at some later stage, this updated map is included in a further MME expansion (SAS-MME part 15), then this map and its associated folders can be deleted.

Years ago I played the "white sun, blue sky" campaign and thought "this one is fantastic, if only we had proper maps" (it was using russian maps).

Well with this campaign we have a proper map, a well written campaign, detailed airfields and objectives, the right planes, what more to ask ?

Started as a rookie wingman, played some and now lead a flight, with a nice score (13 victories and 20+ ground targets), had some mishaps and thrills, enjoying the action a lot !

Every IL2 fan should give it a go, it's really well crafted, thanks a bunch for both map and campaign  :)

Few screenshots to follow, no kill on this one but my wingmen were more successful, man these KI27 can be tough to kill at times. Tactics are pretty simple, don't turn with them, dive and extend if you're bounced, aim straight and you're set.
