Older tracks and canopies open
« on: May 18, 2016, 06:39:29 PM »

I play some of the older tracks and all the planes in it have their canopies open. Is this common and is there a solution?

In your current game you're making a track.
When viewing this track you will see the differences.
So imagine if you watch old tracks that are not from the same version qe your game.

The tracks in IL-2 have no reliable!
They do not record the images ... they record data about the position of objects ...

Well, the same issue irritates me. The way to replay old tracks without this happening is replaying them with HSFX (only in normal mode; in expert mode it doesn't work).

Thank you both. I'll try HSFX. I have it somewhere.

Thanks again

HSFX has the very same issue, the only thing HSFX plays back safely is a track recorded with the same base game version like your HSFX version (e.g. track recorded in stock 4.12.2m works in HSFX 7.0.3, but track from 4.11.1m will show issues).
That's the same with CUP.
Tracks recorded in stock 4.12.2m will play fine in CUP.
4.11.1m tracks or earlier won't.
4.13.x tracks won't for sure.

All IL-2 game versions have that "issue".
It's because with each new base game version handling of net messages changes.
Since "new" tracks are nothing but locally stored net replication messages (NTRK files), tracks are as little cross-version-compatible as online playing would be.

Old style "TRK" tracks will work across any game version but they have plenty of other issues.

Best regards - Mike

hi there Mike,
In principle you are absolutely right, but just try it. HSFX in normal mode is the only modded game version that plays Ntracks from all older game versions correctly (except of course for all the other known issues with tracks).

I am just guessing here but I think it probably has something to do with the open-close position of the canopy in newer flight models being declared. It would be nice to have a mod that allows you to state what the open and close state of the canopy should be when replaying a track. That way it would become possible the replay older tracks on newer mod game versions.

Anyway, that's my not so informed take on the matter. Hope it helps the discussion.

Best regards

Just noticed that old tracks in VP work just fine. No open canopies.

You might check bomb doors now.  :)  Not sure about VP, but it was typical in vanilla game: open doors in a track despite they were closed in real flight.

I want to revisit my project of recreating all of America's Ace of Ace's, Richard Bong's missions, in a video using IL-2 1946 BAT. I live 50 miles away from Poplar, Wisconsin, Bong's home town, and another 10 from the Richard Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior, WI.

https://www.bongcenter.org/

My goal is to provide them with a historically accurate video record of Bong's combat career. Years ago I put up $300 as a prize to anyone who could complete my campaign, America's Ace of Aces on the highest settings and exceed or equal Bong's 40 kills. Videos of each mission along with screen shots of the mission summary were required to both verify and provide me with footage of P-38s with Bong's planes and likeness decimating the enemy.

The whole point of the contest was to get video footage that I could use.

Anyway, no one made the entire campaign alive (that I know of) but I do have some great footage provided by a number of contestants... But the freaking canopies are open when I play the old tracks in BAT.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to close the damn things?

I don't know how to close them completely but if you replay the tracks and re-record them from right after take-off you'll find that in the rerecording the canopy will be closed.
I hope this helps.
Best regards.
