I can't get the game to launch using the selector.

I can launch the base game from the default game exe, which is patched to 4.2.12m. But when I use the selector with VP modpack, the launcher just flashes for a second, but the game doesn't launch. Is there a log anywhere? I can't find one that might give me a clue to what's happening. I followed the install guide, and copied the required entries into the config.ini as well.

I have the GoG downloaded version of the game if that makes a difference.

I was going to post an image of the selector, but it won't let me add an image from an external link.

Ok, so I can now get an error log called initlog.lst to generate, but not sure what the error means. I've found a couple of other posts with that error, but neither of those help. Does it all work in Windows 10?

In case anyone is interested, I think this error was being caused by my virus scanner blocking the IL-2 Watchdog from running. I uninstalled everything in frustration, then noticed the alerts on the virus scanner dashboard. I might try it again at some point and whitelist the exe

Hi Vpmedia, I appreciate very much your modpack (only 4.12 installation I use); before I used a semi-stock version because not expert in mods ... what i missed :-X.
Well, I have a question: I installed some new static campaigns and enjoying them (by Poltava and others), but 'till now I did not try the "already installed campaigns" because I thought they were only "stock" campaigns with stock maps etc. Now I think I need to know more about the "already installed campaigns" in the vpmodpack; are them all "vpmedia made or modified/improved" or only some of them and the rest are old "stock" campaigns ? may you tell us which are vpmedia made/modified ?
Last question: not an expert in DGEN but I have seen that in patch 3 you updated the DGEN files, so does it mean the the original Dgen/EnjoyR Dgen are overwritten to work with campaigns made/tested by you ?

Thanks a lot. When started the pack, I downloaded the EnjoyR patch 5.2 and continued that. I increased the number of available planes in every single campaign by the factor of ten. I also updated a few campaigns (Stgrad, NWeurope, Burma, Kuban, Crimea, Smolensk, etc) with new object templates via mis files.

That could work. Or at least worth a try imho. You should also take a look at the log.lst file.
I'd also run a chkdsk on the hd just to make sure that the file system is ok.

Filesystem is fine, I use SSDs.

It wasn't getting as far as creating a log.lst as it wasn't running the app.

I might try it this weekend and see how it goes.

... These EnjoyR patch campaigns are a continous source of problems, if I could go back in time I would exclude them from the pack and maybe offer them as an optional expansion after some bugfixing. Btw back in april I uploaded a new dgen folder , due to the lack of feedback  I did not add it to the main downloads yet: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50919.msg597549.html#msg597549

thank you for answer earlier today.
I still have a question because i am going to try the "already installed campaigns"; I re-read the thread and I see that in the newest patches 3 and 4 you made changes to dgen files ... as you see in the "quote" above one year ago I installed the "new" dgen you suggested to me ... now just want to be sure I have the right DGEN, so the new patches3+4 Dgen are to be applied to the Dgen you suggested above or to other versions of it (maybe the first "original" Dgen in the pack) ?

I fixed most of the problems with dgen. Install the patch from the first post, it has the latest version of dgen files.

sorry to bother you again, but I have a last question: I already installed patches 3+4 months ago "over" the Dgen that you suggested to me here: (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50919.msg597549.html#msg597549);

so is it already ok or I should install the patch from post 1 (PATCHES http://www.mediafire.com/file/y1mwh136mger4d8/vp_modpack_patch.7z (both patches in one 7z file, 1.63GB)) over my installation ?

If you added any extra mods or did any kind of customization, it's best to just copy the 'Dgen' folder from the patch. It would be wise to make a backup of your current install, before you change anything.

I've got the game installed in C:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\

According to the installation guide for VP, I should extract the mod into C:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\vp_modpack which is what I've been doing, and getting the error above.

As a last resort, I instead extracted VP into C:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\ and this time when I run the selector, the games starts and shows the selected mod.

So why is that?

It only works if you extract into your game folder, if you extract into a subfolder you get an incorrect folder structure.

The secondary goal is to create a package which is really easy to install, its a single 7z archive split into 700Mb parts, extarcting the first part into your game folder will automatically do the other 15 parts too.

This is how to extract with 7z (http://www.7-zip.org/download.html) into your game folder:

The extract defaults to extract into the vp_modpack folder. I extracted into the game folder, and this is what it created. If this is how the 7zip file has been created, how am I to know that it's wrong? It shouldn't have a default folder on the extract if it's meant to overwrite the existing files.
