Hansa Brandenburg D.1s
« on: October 11, 2015, 11:07:51 PM »

Here a small set of HB D.1s in simple schemes.  Skins are made from yet another excellent MURDOC template. 28.01 circa March 1917 assigned to Divacca airfield. Pilot was Cpt. F. Rabitsch.  28.02 was flown by Frank Linke-Crawford ca April 1917.  28.62 of Flik 46 piloted by Dr. Josef Ritter von Ostenhof.  White 4 is an aircraft of Flik 16.

Interesting colour choice! May I ask what you based that overall colour on? Usually the D.I is depicted with the dark wooden hull.

Yes I would agree that most often the D.1 is depicted and modeled with a much darker fuselage, especially the Flik 15 aircraft as well as others.  However there is photo evidence, particularly for 28 series aircraft that the fuselage color was substantially lighter. For example photos of 28. 26, 30, 37, 38, 48, all suggest to me a much lighter color.  Others 65.54, 55, and 79 (dirty) suggest the same. My reference photos are from Austria Hungarian Aces of WWI and internet search, as well as available color profiles such as wings palette. I don't have the windsock publication unfortunately.  Anyway, unlike WWII and later I realize there is a lot of subjectivity in WWI schemes. :)
