Cavalry units WWI by Stephen1918
« on: July 30, 2015, 02:31:51 PM »

Hello guys, this is the now the fourth release of a set of cavalry units created by Stephen1918 from CombatAce.

See the WIP thread here:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47301.0.html

Link updated 30th August 2015.

Mediafire link:

https://www.mediafire.com/?v761bwe7mz1kn9m

With Uufflakes's permission I have now added his repainted textures to the british cavalry units; for uniformity the German units retain the original textures by
Stephen1918 although I could have added the horses to those. ;)

Link for the re-paint by Uufflakke has now been removed from this page as they are in the cavalry download, that link is still further on in the thread.

Original 3d and skin: author Stephen1918 from CombatAce who gave his permission for his work to be adapted for IL-2 1946.

British cavalry units Repaint: Uufflakke.

3d dead model: Pete Shaw aka Mission_bug made from the original 3d.

3d files: Sent to me by RealDarko, originally I was unable to open them but he provided some I could.

Adapted for IL-2 1946:  Pete Shaw aka Mission_bug.

Horse sounds: Epervier new Vehicles package 3.

This now features all of the four different cavalry units, British, French,  german and Russian.

There is a charging:

And patrol:

Patrol moving past the dead static:

And ultimately meeting the same fate:

These are currently working in my DBW 1916 and TD 4.12 with ModAct 5.30.

There is no dust cloud as these are essentially cars in the java, a experiment was made setting them as tanks, in that instance the
dust worked but the dead model did not so I reverted back to using the cars java and folders.

I am sure there are bugs, plese report these if you find them.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

There are 2 ways to extract 3dmodels from Thirdwire (CombatAce SF and FE) files:
1) The LOD file can be opened directly using UMC2v1.3 and saved in x or obj formats. To convert these files to 3ds or to import them directly to 3Dmax is routine.
2) if you have a version of FE of SF running on your computer you can extract the models using 3DXRipper

Glad you like the new addition to the WWI battlefield guys. 8)

I will start on the other three nations soon, although at the moment I have just left work to start my two weeks holiday so not quite sure what I will be getting up to for a few weeks. :D

Thank you very much fro the information it is greatly appreciated. ;)

Originally I was unable to convert the files RealDarko sent to me as I had no idea what exactly they were from, however, he was able to send them to me in a number of different formats some of which I was able to open in gmax. 8)

Glad you are happy with them Gabriel, thank you for the help you gave, it is greatly appreciated.

At some time I will return to the tank idea for the dust but that will probably mean I need to break
the models down into those parts.

The horse sounds I read in your thread you did not know the author so I just listed that pack as where I had got them. ;)

Take care guys.

About the static British Patrol, the entries for the static.ini are incorrect.
I can't see them showing up.

When I replace the DeadBritishCavalry lines in the [***]Title BritishCavalry section
by the lines below everything is okay.

[buildings.House$BritishPatrol]
Title           BritishPatrol
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/BritishPatrol/Live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/BritishPatrol/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          40.05

By the way I am working on a repaint of the horses and later on I will redo the soldiers.
Work in progress of the horses (without bridles yet):

A typo on my part Uufflakke, sorry for that guys. :-[

I look forward to the repaint, should be great, I guess I could add seperate entries in the java to reflect say different horse colours. 8)

The dead model picks up the same texture as the main model but I renamed it as a place holder in the hope that one of our skin masters
could produce a dedicated texture for that. ;)

Saddle bags and horseman will follow next time.
