this is great!
but i have to ask - seems they will instantly kill any ship, as any ship collisions result in ships sinking - what we really need, is for ship hulls to be able to take damage without necessarily sinking.
i realise it's likely a game limitation, but it would be so much more realistic if we could somehow improve ship damages so that they can survive with damage, instead of sinking instantly - maybe one day....
that issue aside, very cool mod, which will definitely spice up the IL-2 seas :D

i made a small extension to the static mines, which currently appear completely above water, and can't really be placed at sea like this.
so, this just adds a version that is 'sunk' slightly into the sea, and looks more realistic.
if you're already using this mod, all you need to do is add these entries to your static.ini (preferably in the same section with the other mines, but that's entirely up to you):

Code: [Select]
[buildings.House$USMine_162Float]
Title           US_Mine_162
MeshLive        3do/Ships/SeaMines/Type16-2/mono.sim
MeshDead
AddHeightLive   -0.8
AddHeightDead   -0.9
Body            FuelSmall
Panzer          0.005

[buildings.House$USMine_163Float]
Title           US_Mine_163
MeshLive        3do/Ships/SeaMines/Type16-3/mono.sim
MeshDead
AddHeightLive   -0.8
AddHeightDead   -0.9
Body            FuelSmall
Panzer          0.005

[buildings.House$IJMine_934Float]
Title           IJ_Mine_934
MeshLive        3do/Ships/SeaMines/Type93-4/mono.sim
MeshDead
AddHeightLive   -0.6
AddHeightDead   -0.7
Body            FuelSmall
Panzer          0.005

[buildings.House$DEMine_GUFloat]
Title           DE_Mine_GU
MeshLive        3do/Ships/SeaMines/TypeGU/mono.sim
MeshDead
AddHeightLive   -0.6
AddHeightDead   -0.8
Body            FuelSmall
Panzer          0.005

[buildings.House$ITMine_IMFloat]
Title           IT_Mine_IM
MeshLive        3do/Ships/SeaMines/TypeIM/mono.sim
MeshDead
AddHeightLive   -0.6
AddHeightDead   -0.7

hope it can be of use to someone, and hope m'sieur Epervier is okay with me adding this :D

You are free to do what you want.
But static mines were never intended to be positioned at sea since there are stationary mines:D

yes, i know, lol... :D
however, i intended these to reflect 'dummy' mines, which were historically used, to hamper/slow down mine-clearing ships... ;)

from our 'know-it-all'  :P friend, Wikipedia:
Quote
Dummy mine[edit]
Plastic drums filled with sand or concrete are periodically rolled off the side of ships as real mines are laid in large mine-fields. These inexpensive false targets (designed to be of a similar shape and size as genuine mines) are intended to slow down the process of mine clearance: a mine-hunter is forced to investigate each suspicious sonar contact on the sea bed, whether it is real or not. Often a maker of naval mines will provide both training and dummy versions of their mines.

be assured, i did not take Wiki's word for it, and asked some retired naval officers, one of them being my own father, whose first command was a minesweeper, and they confirmed the use of these dummy mines, as well
of course, these won't drift as the others might, but for a purely visual purpose, they're okay, i guess....  ;)

HSFX has a partial damage model , at least for large ships , but I do not know any of the details (I never know any of the details ! - that is for the smart young fellers out there).
Charlie Chap or 4Shades at SEOW HQ are the guys who will have the answers about this.

I am currently in HSFX7 , and have flown in a couple of SEOW campaigns with partial ship damage.

i did a new metal texture for these mines - try it out - if you like it, keep it - if you don't, delete it :D

https://www.mediafire.com/?gvc7i6f1c185x1g

before:

after:

place the texture inside 'YourNavalMinesFolder/3do/Ships/SeaMines/textures'.
be sure to back up your existing one first, just in case you don't like this one. ;)

Malone, these are stunning beautiful textures, but I think that, in wartime, the mines were over painted (black or other dark paint) and not let in "metal" color. Could you ask your father and let us know, as he would know firsthand how they were?
