Or if anyone ever has adopted this project. Whats the status?

Hello, guys! Hi Gerax!
I saw both that threads. With the first... I appreciate Kanttori's efforts as long as Gumpy's, but I saw there only textures of the Finland city, not Leningrad. I can offer some aerial photography to use it like textures...

I wish that Kanttori had finished his work on this map but,sadly he seems to have vanished and hasn't been heard from since January.

Here is my version of this map with as far as possible original FAF airfields. Just unpack and replace the finsgulf folder with this http://www.mediafire.com/download/nq3xj2708c7wwdm/finsgulf_Retextured_JHa.zip.

Airfields that are covered with grass during summer and snow during winter may be a bit difficult to perceive at first, but that's how they were - more or less.
In addition: if you like to fly old campaigns or missions you have to relocate the take off and landing points because they don't fit with the original ones.

And remember to back up your original folders and files if you don't like this version of the map.

I was in contact with Dancing Bear about a year ago and I know he restarted his project. We sent some emails and shared a few documents but I haven't heard anything since last summer. I don't know if he has given up...

Hello!

Great texture pack Gumpy, I just tried it!

I have a pause with the map making because I must wait the Aces High 3 (game) update. I am a member of the Aces High Terrain Team and after the big game update I am going to totally redo my Aces High Karelia map and all the Finnish-Russian terrain textures. After Aces High 3 release (on next autumn I suppose) I can check the new resolutions of the water map and elevation map. Water map  is one of the biggest work with this terrain because of the huge amount of waterways, rivers and lakes in Finland.

I have noticed, that the map's source materials are very similar between these two games, for examble the water and elevation maps and terrain textures. So when I know the new standards to AH3 I am going to built totally new Karelia maps to both Aces High 3 and Il-2 1946. The new Karelia map is very much similar than the current Finnsgulf but there are more terrain on the north and east of Lake Ladoga. There are couple of very important airfields, for ex. Taipalsaari, Immola, Mensuvaara and Nurmoila. Current Aces High 2 Karelia maps's sixe is about 400 x 400 km.

Those *_rt.* files are the Gumpy's files that I renamed (rt = retextured).
I have tried to locate my airfields as correctly as possible, so they don't fit with the stock map. That's why I had to change some wood areas and heights and the "old" files can't be used. So you made a good guess.

Dancing Bear sent me only some screenshots, not any files.
