Repaint of Mideast objects + shadows added
« on: March 25, 2015, 10:04:51 AM »

I repainted the objects from Nounette's Big Mideast map quite some time ago (with his permission).
Since they are a bit hidden in his thread ( https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16061.0.html) I think it is a better idea to post them in a separate thread.

Besides repainted this new link contains shadows added to objects:

Excelent work!
Mosques are much better now.
But I wonder why these objects do not have shadows...
This is so annoying to the point that I usually avoid using them when I make missions in desertic maps. >:(
Any chance to change this?

I don't know how to create 3d models and its shadows. Indeed, objects including shadow look better on maps. Without houses etc. seem to float.
For performance reasons objects are created without shadows like Canonuk's objects in his densily populated The English Channel maps.
Perhaps someone else is willing and able to add shadows?

Great idea! I always found them a bit too garish.

Adding shadows is dead easy. Look at an existing object's mesh which contains the shadow vertices and faces, to see how it's formatted. Then add the same sections to these buildings, simply copying the existing model vertices and faces. In the past, it was often the case that the next lower detail LOD's vertices/faces were used for making shadows, in the interest of resource management. If there is too great a difference in the transition between LOD details, it might be better to use the same vertices/faces from that LOD for its shadows.

This can be done with any text editor.

Adding shadows is dead easy.

It ís easy indeed!
Never knew that about the shadow part.
Now I have homework to do: adding shadows to the above repaints and reupload everything.
