almost harmless flak
« on: December 07, 2014, 04:46:14 PM »

hey everyone,
I just set up a mission in Berlin and have about 50-75 pak 18s in an area less than your average soccer/football field all set to ace skill level. I then lead a flight of 4 B-17Gs on a straight and level course directly over the top of them at around 2000m and it gave them about a minute of free fire at us. only one B-17 was lost and the other 3 took no damage at all. I had flak exploding between my wing and elevator about 2 feet from my plane and all it did was rattle the plane a bit. is there a way I can make the flak guns have more powerful bursts so that the splash damage is over a wider area?

hmm.
well, for starters, without any info of your game version, any advice would be shooting in the dark....
my thoughts are that you just got lucky, as the flak, in my experience, will certainly rip your planes to pieces if you attempt a second run.
i mean, i once flew an escort mission over the desert at an altitude of over 5000m, and a was taken out with the very first shot from a solitary flak 18. no damage to the plane, just an ugly piece of shrapnel stuck in my head....  :D

Not to nitpick but you wrote "...and have about 50-75 pak 18s in an area..."  you do mean a Flak 18 ? Yes?  A PAK would be an AT gun mounting.  I have no such object in my game but there are many object mods out there.  I just wanted to check if that had any bearing on your problem.
In my game (mostly TFM412) I have a Flak 18 object and an Battery 88mm.  The battery object fires about 4 times faster than the Flak 18.  Also the guns stop firing when the bombers are overhead and do not start again till they rotate around.  This causes a lull in the barrage.  If they are placed to the sides of the flight path they track and fire continuously.

it might be a good idea to post up the mission for us to help test.
but before doing that, refer back to my previous post. ;)

yeah, my bad Malone, thought I had put the version in the title for some reason. its 4.12.2 modact 5.3, and no mods that have anything to do with flak. And I didn't get lucky either, I ran the mission about 15 times with varying aircraft and gunner skill, all with the same result. I then loaded a single 20mm AA on ace difficulty and was destroyed pretty quickly.

jpten- yes, flak 18. I cant words anymore :-[
