Camera Mod for Screenshots etc. v1.02
« on: October 27, 2014, 08:39:24 AM »

Dear SAS members & guests,

I know this has been done before, maybe better, maybe bigger, at least in a similar way...
However all the mods doing the same thing like this one does, appeared too "intrusive" to me for occasional usage, that's why I did this one.
This mod features just one purpose hence it changes one java class only.
It enables you to look around wherever you want in external views (friendly and enemy, F2 and Ctrl+F2), so you can change the point you're looking from in all three axis as well as the direction you're looking at in all three axis as well.

Additionally, both in "standard" and "modded" camera mode, you can toggle a "pilot view follows camera" mode with your caps lock key.
When caps lock is engaged, the view of the pilot who's plane you're currently watching will follow your camera, so he'll always be looking straight in your direction (without breaking his neck of course lol :P )

Last but not least, since version 1.02 of this mod, you can also use a "go pro" camera view mode, where the camera is placed at specific spots of your airplane, moving with it.
There's up to 9 positions available, depending on the airplane you're looking at.
To use the "go pro" mode, just hit the "follow view" key (default: F8) multiple times.

This mod is least intrusive thus compatible with any base game version from 4.09m through 4.13.1m.
Note the known issues from the readme however, and most of all make sure to read the readme!

Readme:
Code: [Select]
                  Camera Mod (for Screenshots etc.)

                                 v1.02

***************************************************************************

Installation:
Extract this mod into the folder which holds the modded files in your game.
Depending on your game version this might be e.g. MODS, #SAS, #DBW, #UP# or
anything else.

***************************************************************************

Usage:
This mod makes it possible to look around wherever you want in external
views (F2 and Ctrl+F2).
You can toggle between "standard" game behaviour and "modded" game
behaviour by pressing the "Pan View" Hotkey (by default this is the "F9"
key). When in "modded" mode, mouse behaviour is this:

Mouse left/right                     = Turn your view left/right
Mouse up/down                        = Turn your view up/down
Alt Key pressed                      = Temporary "standard" game behaviour
(until you release the Alt Key)
Mouse left/right + Shift Key Pressed = Move your Viewpoint left/right
Mouse up/down + Shift Key Pressed    = Move your Viewpoint up/down
Mouse left/right + Ctrl Key Pressed  = Tilt your view left/right
Mouse up/down + Ctrl Key Pressed     = Move your Viewpoint forward/backward

Additionally, both in "standard" and "modded" camera mode, you can toggle
a "pilot view follows camera" mode with your caps lock key.
When caps lock is engaged, the view of the pilot who's plane you're
currently watching will follow your camera, so he'll always be looking
straight in your direction (without breaking his neck of course lol :P )

Last but not least, since version 1.02 of this mod, you can also use a
"go pro" camera view mode, where the camera is placed at specific spots
of your airplane, moving with it. There's up to 9 positions available,
depending on the airplane you're looking at.
To use the "go pro" mode, just hit the "follow view" key (default: F8)
multiple times.

***************************************************************************

Known Issues:
This mod has been made as little intrusive as possible. The only class
modified is the "HookView" base game class.
It's compatible with any base game version from 4.09m through 4.12.2m.
4.13.x might or might not work, I don't give a flying f*ck.
However naturally it is in conflict with other mods touching the "HookView"
class, e.g. PAL's VisualMod. This mod is not meant to replace such mods,
it's merily a "lightweight" example of a full "freedom" mouse move mod.
If you want to use this mod together with other conflicting mods
nevertheless, please make sure to rename this mod's folder accordingly,
e.g. to "### Camera Mod" in order to ensure it's loaded before any other
mod touching the same classes.

If you want to file a bug report, please write

"I've read and understood the readme!"

somewhere in your bug report (literally, use copy & paste).
Otherwise I assume that you didn't read this readme and hence will not give
a damn for your bug report. Thank you very much for your understanding.

I must admit that this is not yet perfect.
For instance the external view will always start in "modded" mode, you have to press F9 once to get back to the normal behaviour.
I'll try to change that in the next release.

Then, when you move around a lot and switch between "normal" and "modded" mode a couple of times, you might f*ck up the whole viewpoint so you will eventually not be able to coordinate between your mouse move and the viewpoint changes anymore.
What's missing here is some kind of "reset" button so you get back to the default viewpoint without having to toggle through externals again.
That comes true particularly when you want to view some other aircraft than yours, in worst case you have to toggle through the full list of external cameras available, which can be many in case of online sessions.
This is also due for another update.

Eventually some kind of toggle button for "help" icons showing the meaning of different key/mouse move combinations would be great.
That might or might not be implemented later, I have to check the feasibility of this.

The original PAT mod was long one of my favourites, until the compatibility problems made it just too difficult to use.  Absolutely love this new camera mod.  Thanks Mike!

Same here, wonderful addition to my 4.09m installs, and maybe also to 4.12 as extra option aside the Visual Mod.

Cheers

WOW!

The mod has a bug, that allows you to get the camera under the landscape. So I edited the underwater part of the screenie with paint.net, and this is what i got. Wow!

It's not a bug, it's a feature :P
Joking aside, nobody forces you to submerge the cam.
You can even dig yourself a hole at land with it.

I know i know :D
I found it when I was setting the camera for a screenie, and immediately I tought it would be cool if i can take screens of ships from under the water line. And voila!

Thanks again for publishing this mod ;D
