Game's on, People! Cool stuff!
« on: October 24, 2014, 02:31:14 AM »

This thread is about cool stuff compared to "forgotten battles".

because this Sim covers roughly the same subject Forgotten Battles did back in the day.

If you have Cool stuff to show off, please post a few pixels.
If you have a negative opinion of the game, or are not sure you like it, please consider yourselves banned from posting in here.

Not being a fanboy, just making an effort and looking at the cool new stuffs and thingz and features that come with Battle of Stalingrad.
because the BoS is still a Forgotten Battle in the west.

V 1.002

I have decided to give it a clean slate, if that is in anyway possible with that window...
Can't see a damn thing!

so let's have a positive thread - piece by piece.
Only cool stuff. We can put the sucky stuff into other threads like "they are full of chet"

So i started flying full switch on the Syndicate server.

Cool Feature: incremental oil splatter.
Cool Feature: without TrackIR you cannot see the compass.
...and on that white-on-white map, you will be... screwed :P

Cool Feature
each blade bends around the Cowling independently.
and the Plane is supported on the wingtip, and the wing only slowly breaks away...

so you can jump into the back seat of someone else... DURING his flight.
and so, with TrackIR... you lean out and smell the exhaust and feel the propwash...

and see your frickin taxi driver wipe the snot off his nose.

Instead of bringing you back home in one piece.
Bloody ell!

boxed retail version will be available in my country, and others, from the 7th November.

Yep there will be boxed versions, Amazon lists them in germany as well, but I'm uncertain whether they're worth the money.
For comparison, all calculated in US$:

Direct sales from http://il2sturmovik.com/:
Standard: $60
Premium: $100
Excalibur (Standard?): $64
Amazon DE (Standard?): $63

I have yet to see a premium retail pack.
Purchasing the two additional planes (La-5 series 8 and Fw-190 A-3) takes another $40, quite exactly the difference between Standard and Premium edition @il2sturmovik.com.
Can't figure what's best yet...

Best regards - Mike

Premium.
Why? Because from a gameplay PoV you will want them, and quite soon too.
remember... you trade five hundred planes and go back to two handsfull, even with premium.
because you already KNOW this stuff.
look here, our old friend the GAZ tanker. super interesting, yes?
[just saying - you want to maximise game content, else you get owned and headshotted by either the la5 or the 190, and spend 60 bucks on something that makes you grit your teeth]
cool stuff: gear indicator Pin... works!

cool stuff...

just a half-inch machine gun... so much polygon. so many pixel. much wow.

Also interesting is Loft his wish list.
I hope it comes true with the summer map and I-16 (I've read already about the I-16 which will be added sooner or later but not at release).
Then I will jump in.
Maybe.

That last line in his post makes me curious.

(Sorry for that crappy Google Translator which makes something cryptic from Russian to English)

I am growing fond of this game. It really grab you if you let it. But it is no where near the wide spectre we got here. But it have the best simulated physics ever

and the Scheisse is that you can not show that. you have to see the tail wiggle, you have to hear the engine misfire, move around the cockpit, stall the yak and recover the 109 to see that.
anyway... needed a white paint, so i can hide in the snow. did an offline campaign Mission for that.

coolness?
coolness is that despite these important underlying Changes, the flights themselves feel very similar to the original.
If i go back 10 years and take FB version 1.X ... This is the same package, but with less content because of upgraded complexity.

a set of Planes centered around the Il-2,
some Leader to wingman commands,
white plains and white sunlight,
Panzers and Arty that are hard to hit
simple waypoints, and the freedom to stick to them or not.

If you really step back to 2001/2002, then the flying and combat aspect are very very similar.
As soon as you are in the cockpit, the feeling comes back, the feeling of far away lands and strange languages, endless plains...
At least it feels like that to me - the memories of back then fly with me even today.
A deja Vu, or meeting with an old friend from High school days. back then we were fooling around... This time it's for real.

Coolness is... i get to live it all again, only on a much tougher scale piloting-wise, and with a much, much better sunset.
and the syndicate server is bursting at 75/75 players.

we really need to get a ded.serv. for this.

Coolness is also: full switch right from the start. no need for these arcade options, no need to get to grips with CEM.
If you are used to 1946 full switch you can easily transfer.

But it all looks so sterile and white and plain empty all over the place.

Even in Stalingrad.

No man's land.

OK, ~80 Euro
If they just sell the standard version, I'll quit.
I want value for 80 sheets, it's easy to please me 1C folks  ;)

3 weeks and the delivery of DHL and I'll see myself hopefully in a premium boxed arrangement.
What we'll eventually find in that new world, nobody can predict.

The Textures, well initially Stalingrad unlocked, it turned out to be the Hoth-Level from
another sci-fi game, it's unlock-free, it's wooden-class texture, not comparable to our precious 3rd class.
But not so loud, not that they drop right before publishing?!
