War Over Italy: July 1943-May 1945

A DCG campaign for IL-2 DBW 1.71  and TFM-412 by Von Ofterdingen

Download Link: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=1990

Campaign Information

This campaign is based on events in the Italian battle-fronts from the invasion of Sicily through the end of the war. Though based on historical data, much of the gameplay is dynamic due to the nature of Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG).

The following campaigns are available:.

•   Operation Husky, the Invasion of Sicily
•   Invasion of the mainland
•   The Gustav Line
•   The Gothic Line

I recommend that you start with Operation Husky and let the DCG run you through the entire war.

Nation                              Plane(s)                          Sub-campaign(s)
Great Britain (RAF)            Spitfire, Mosquito            All
Italian                              M.C 205                         Operation Husky (Invasion of Sicily)
USAF                               B-25, P-47, P-38, P-39    All
Luftwaffe                         BF-110, JU-88, BF-109    All

Reference

I based the campaign parameters on the historical reference, Africa to the Alps, on USAAF.net:

http://www.usaaf.net/ww2/africa/index.htm

Prerequisites & Compatibility

This campaign was written and tested using the SAS Dark Blue World mod pack.

I have done limited testing and found no issues with The 412 TFM modact version. The campaign may also be compatible with other modded DCG-enabled IL-2 systems, though I have not personally tested any others.  You must have So.V-Volperossa ‘s War over Italy map installed. The map is included with DBW and 412TFM.

You must have installed Lowengrin’s Dynamic Campaign Generator for IL-2 version 3.47 or later. To obtain DCG see the Lowengrin website: http://www.lowengrin.com

Installation and Settings
•  Decompress the WarOverItaly.zip file and put the uncompressed WarOverItaly folder into your DCG home directory.
•  Make a backup of the DGEN directory in you IL-2 game directory.
•  Copy the DGEN folder from the WarOverItaly\DGEN directory and paste it to the main game folder. If prompted to overwrite files, click Yes.
•  Start the DCG program. Select File?Optional Third Party Data Folder.
•  Navigate to the WarOverItaly folder and select allcampaigns.dcg.
•  In the DCG main screen, select Mode ? Off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode).
•  Close DCG.
•  Start your IL-2 game. Choose one of the Nation/Career options listed above under Campaign Information and slick Start.
•  For best results, choose the squadron that is in the same ordinal position as the aircraft you select. For example, if you choose the second aircraft type in a list of three, choose the second squadron in the list as well. This will ensure that you receive the correct aircraft upgrades as they become available.
Compatibilities

This is a large and dynamic campaign with 4 different career nationalities. I have done testing, but testing a campaign of this scope is near-impossible. If you encounter difficulties, please notify me; solutions are usually available once I know the nature of the problem. Exploding planes on startup are the most common issue; if you encounter this please let me know (this is a problem that can be fixed with relative ease). I have created new Payload assignment files for this campaign, but as noted above it is hard to test all possible combinations.

Credits
Thanks to the SAS team for bringing us Dark Blue World, and Paul Lowengrin for the excellent DCG campaign generator.
I am personally much indebted to Scharnhorst and Lonestar for their wonderful tutorials on the use and scripting of DCG campaigns.
Skins. Many thanks to the skinners! Truly the campaign builders best friends (along with map makers)!

Hi
Thanks for this superb work!!
I have and SAS 5.30 & TFM-26.

I have seen after edit the mission that some ships are over the ground and a lot of statics objets (usually trucks) are inside fuel storage or stores/buildings.
I moved all of them but the problem persist. The code is:

I have seen after edit the mission that ... a lot of statics objets (usually trucks) are inside fuel storage or stores/buildings.

Of note, this is valid.  To allow AI targeting for buildings/fuel dumps, etc...  targetable objects such as fuel trucks must be placed inside these structures.  From a players perspective, you would not see them unless they were not aligned correctly and a truck was half sticking out of a fuel dump.  Basically, in a campaign where buildings must be destroyed, campaign designers place objects inside these structures.  Often this is for campaigns where a certain percentage of destruction is required to win the campaign.

Also, DCG uses this technique to track/manage fuel at locations along given routes.  If fuel is knocked out at a given route location (fuel truck inside fuel dump destroyed), it will prevent a column from moving to next location during the next mission.  The convoy will be stuck until resupplied.

As for the ships, not sure on that one...  indeed if placed on land, they will spawn there, or if DCG generated ships per a shipping route, perhaps the route lines are too close or on the land.

Darth, could you post or send me the .mis file that DCG generated?

The file I mean is the file  \dgen_i_huskydoe0/194307150.mis

As noted above, the vehicles inside buildings are intentional. The Ships on land could be an error in my sea routes that I did not see in testing. I don't think that would cause a CTD error though.

Hi vonofterdingen

The problem with the ships its in the dcgmission file, look at Palermo & Tunez.

Before I look you post I had deleted & reload the campaign, and now works... I dont know why...

Thanks

Do you plan on doing a Catch-22 related campaign? I've been doing a Catch-22 skinpack for awhile now. Maybe when it's done, we could join both projects. Of course, the lead flight'd have to be made of B-25Cs and the rest'd be B-25J-15s.

Yes, a Catch-22 campaign sounds interesting. That's some catch, that catch-22.

It's the best there is! I tried myself, but I can't get the taxi thing to work. No. 2 follows me then turns off his engines. Just know that the player ALWAYS has to be in a B-25C-25NA, as Yossarian's plane (6V Dumbo) is a B-25C. There are two more B-25Cs as well. The rest pf the planes are B-25J-15NAs

Darth,

I am not certain, but I do not think any mission file in itself can cause a CTD. Maybe a more java-savvy person can verify or deny that. Just the same, if the error you show in the snippet is the root problem, I am assuming that the NoSuchMethod error is a memory problem. If you could send or post the MIS file, I will try to run the mission myself. Otherwise, I would like to ask you to try  dialing back your DCG Density settings. This campaign has many planes and objects loaded.

that NoSuchMethodError is indicative of a conflicting mod, in my experience.
for example, CY6's Rocket Infantry, is a prime example.
