Grumman Hawkeye stand-in
« on: February 02, 2014, 03:19:12 PM »

With all the work going on on the F-14, F-18, and various Vietnam war aircraft, I thought i'd do a quick Grumman Hawkeye kitbash based on the Ar-234 AWACs:

Need to add turboprops and sort a slot, then i'm done. Not perfect i'll admit but should be fun, and a reasonable stand in for a full Hawkeye (which I may well tackle at some point; currently i'm building the 1/48th scale Italeri model and that's more than enough).

Wait a minute, is there a tail-hook on this one? WOW!
Love it! A great looking design.
I would defenitly use this aircraft as a futuristic-design Luftwaffe-`46 to be used
for Atlantic ocean recon, flying off the German aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin :)
Could this thing land on an aircraft carrier?

Excellent; glad you approve. If you want a bit of "fluff" Max, just say it was developed by the IJN from equipment captured during the "Final Countdown" incident in '41  ;)

I do need a beta tester for the carrier hook if anyone's willing - I can put this thing on the deck just fine, but there's a glitch somewhere in my game and it crashes to desktop when you get the wire. It's a universal problem, but I could do with someone to test a deck landing is actually possible with this aircraft.

Cool indeed! ;D
with F-14,F/A-18 and the E-2C, we are going to have IL2-1996!
By the way, are you going to do some update on this plane's nose because it really has a lot of difference from E-2C, looking forward to its release anyway

Hah, I had noticed! Not this time i'm afraid. This planes a chance for me to play around a bit; like I said, there may be a proper Hawkeye at some point.

Matt, if you are interested in doing a Japanese air force jet version, I will send to you
some IJN AR-234 skins I did a few years ago. I never released them to the public, it was
for my personal flying in IJN-1946 ( "What-if" World War II- 1939-1949).
When I get home I send you the template and you can paint it anyt color you wish.
