Speed 33 Knots
Crew 2000 plus 1500 air

IL2 MODEL
This carrier was arbitarily selected for IL2 modification and probably the only accurate item in the model is the number '19'. Details were fairly well researched but, often, sensible compromises or good guesses had to be made. However, it is hoped that enough has been done to make a pilot think he's on the 'Fighting Hanna'. Features include: enhanced textures, remodelled island and mast, more railings, elevator structures, safety netting, door details, 3D pipework, water outlets, hanger interiors and sponson details. Original thread https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,35230.0.html

MODIFICATION
Large texture maps were used wherever possible. There are very few plain surfaces, most objects were mapped onto textured areas to give variation in hues and tones. No damage models and few collision boxes were included to save memory, time and to maintain realism. Similarly, smoke and flags were excluded. Modelling was carried out in Blender 2.67 (see reference 1) using a mesh convertor (reference 2) and exported via GMax using BuggyBuggy exporter (3). Textures were created or reworked in Gimp 2.8 (4). It was tested in DBW 1.71 on Vista 32 SP2 and separately also in DBW 1.71 on Vista 64 SP2, but it should also work in other configurations. There was no significant change in FPS using a Q6600 CPU, 3GB RAM and 1GB GF GT240.

INSTALLATION
USS Hancock CVA-19 HD model is to replace "USSHancockCV19_1968" in western0221 ....\XXX\USSEssexCVs_SCB125\3do\Ships\.. folder. So -

1) If you haven't already, you need western0221 Essex SCB-125 carriers installed and working (see reference 5).

2) You also need to install the amazing High Resolution / True Color Textures Mod package by Carsmaster and Storebror (reference 6).

3) Unzip 'USSHancock_CVA19_1968_remodel.zip' file (see reference 7) to a temporary location.

4) Copy and paste the unzipped 'USSHancockCV19_1968' folder to your XXX\USS Essex SCB-125\3d0\ships folder, where XXX = 'MODS' or '#DBW' or '#UP#'.

5) Open .....XXX\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\Ships.ini with a text editor (NotePad, TextPad or Gedit). Use Ctrl-F or other search method to find the beginning of the entry for "USSHancockCV19_1968". Delete the whole entry containing Parts 0 to 60. Replace it with the new one from "Ships_ini.txt" containing Parts 0 to 13.

6) Installation of the catapult mod is almost mandatory; see western's advice on this (8 ).

7) Essex carrier crew by Ranwners is a must (9), but you will have to change the  ....\XXX\0USSEssexCVs_crew\3do\Ships\USSHancockCV19_1968\Hier.him file. Replace it with the new one.

Very good looking ship. Thank you. One issue I have is I followed your instructions and the ship shows but I have a top portion of the mast in the middle of the flight deck. The mast on the top of the tower is there and correct but I have a second one on the flght deck.

I know you guys are serious about this ship and I hope you get Fighting Hannie running faultlessly.

Early on, I attempted to develop FLOLS, alternative parking and animated steam catapult leaks - but I didn't leave any debris around! She's only been tested in DBW 1.7.1 under Vista 32 and 64 bit with GF9300 and GT240 NVIDIA graphics cards but should work most other places. I really can't think of any area to start looking to help you. A post of the error log file wouldn't really be of any use to me, I'm afraid - but you can try if you want. If you have western0221 angled deck Essex carriers working, the remodelled and re-installed USS Hancock should also be OK.

First, check that you have the latest version 2.02 of western's carriers; download the Essex1960Pack2.02.7z.

Also make sure that your ......\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\Ships.ini and ......\0USSEssexCVs_crew\3do\Ships\USSHancockCV19_1968\hier.him files have been changed according to the instructions.

Good luck.

EDIT 18Sep13 corrected hier.him file path

I found my error. I placed your hier.him in the carrier folder instead of the correct place in Ranwer deck crew folder. :) I love the detail of the inside view...

Glad you got it 'Bombs'. Hope it applies to you also, 'Eddie'.

I may have misled you by quoting the carrier hier file - which is already in the carrier file and doesn't need changing. I've edited my post #4 to emphasise the Rawner's crew change instead.

Karla

Sorted, nothing wrong with your mod mate, a lot wrong with my ships.ini   :-[  Duplicated files for the Hancock all over the place made matters worse so I had a good sort out and now it works beautifully.

Thanks again for all the work you put into this, she was well worth the effort to sort my mess out and I am delighted I got her to work.

Moral of the story, when you remove things remove all of it.   :-X

Hey guys -

I'm just wondering if there's a simpler solution to installing this? I've tried to follow the directions exactly and between all the pre-requisite downloads, and multiple ".ini" changes, I can't get it to work (and have in fact re-installed Il-2 all together after messing it up so bad).

Thanks,
K.

Hi there -

So I finally got this amazing ship working after much trial and error. I now have the problem where the mast sticks up through the deck. So I replaced the Rawner hier.him with yours and the mast went away BUT the deck crew have now disappeared. So, I read your instructions again:

"Also make sure that your ......\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\Ships.ini and ......\0USSEssexCVs_crew\3do\Ships\USSHancockCV19_1968\hier.him files have been changed according to the instructions."

....But can't seem to find what the problem is. Any ideas?

EDIT: Resolved - the hier.him file in the Hancock ship download needs to be applied last, after the crew addon is installed.

Thanks!
K.
