Well, all this is certainly true, 110G, but we "need" to go through that phase in order to return to a personalized form of combat with spears, swords and clubs (the wars of the future)... ;)

I do feel that taking the human out of the control loop might be a step too far

This is exactly what happens when minefields are laid. Very basic simple weapons, but after the conflict has finished they still lurk around waiting for the opportunity to fullfill their designated purpose.

Lucky me I didn't buy that automatic lawnmower which has been our local tool market's special offer last week.
I'd be scared it would join the navy now.

And for sure I'll have a close eye on my programmable coffee machine.

Just wait till the next major war and these things are either hacked in flight or get shot down by the dozen. then they'll have a vietnam esque situation where thy have to train hundreds of new pilots and build hundreds of new airplanes.
