can anyone post something like this for the new helo's being released so that they are steady flying. All of them seem to go left and right most of time. is there a change in settings to make them easier to handle like flight model? thanks. Please excuse if one was made but I looked and did not see one around.
AFAIK there is no tutorial around the SAS site atm. Also, I am afraid there is no "setting" (in conf.ini or ingame) that makes flying them any easier.
On the positive side, it is not that hard to fly them. If no one has yet made a "tutorial", I will.
There are a few differences to airplanes that novice pilots need to be aware of.
First of all, the
throttle:
On helicopters (in IL-2 anyway), there is no throttle, the main rotor is set to a default speed. (I know this is incorrect IRL, this is for IL-2 video game ONLY - as I always say, do not try this at home, or be prepared to carry the consequences, I for sure won't)
The throttle on your joystick is mapped to the
collective which is used to increase/decrease the AoA of the main rotor blades, and - thus the name - it moves all blades
collectively. In simple terms, more "throttle" means more lift. (...means you go UP.)
The other thing is the
stick.
Your joystick is actually mapped to the stick in the chopper, which is called
cyclic. When you move the cyclic as the main rotor blades
cycle around, it will raise the one opposite to the direction in which you moved the cyclic, and thereby tilting the helicopter in again the other direction. Once again, in simple terms: moving the cyclic will (should? may?
) tilt the helicopter in the same direction.
And then there is the
rudder.
The rudder works quite similar to airplanes', but by completely different means. Because your main rotor necessarily turns in one particular directions, due to some physics stuff, the helicopter itself wants to turn the other way. (which is also why, in certain action/war movies, when hit in the tail, choppers will go in circles until they hit the ground.) To prevent going in circles, the tail rotor - like an airplane prop - "pulls" against this force. This counterpull should have been balanced by helicopter manufacturers. However, with your pedals, you can command more or less counterpull, which results in swiveling in the corresponding direction.
You may also notice, that the faster you go, the shakier the helicopter gets. This is partly due to a phenomen called asymetric lift. Basically, because your main rotor has one side moving forward with the helicopter and the other one moving "backwards", one can (and will) create much more lift than the other, resulting in your helicopter tilting sharply to one side. For example, if your rotor turns clockwise, as you reach the VNE ("never exceed velocity"), you will tilt to the right.

Those videos were made on the Sikorsky by Flakiten (i think it was him) but the same theory works for the Bell (by Sani, the last time I checked) or the Huey (over at il2FM) or the Cobra (gone due to legal issues atm iirc) or the Hind (wait, we have one of those yet?) or or or...
It's just that imho the Sikorsky (I called it "flying uHaul" back then) is the easiest to fly, simply because of it's "semi-trailer"-like handling.
