Green-Tailed Devils - New WW1 Campaign for Albatros D.III!
« on: December 30, 2012, 06:49:49 AM »

Well, after seeing also those new, amazing WW1 MOD:s appearing in DBW 1916 I couldn't help myself. I have made a campaign for the Albatros D.III (surely one of the most beutiful aircraft ever made). It is called "Green-Tailed Devils":

This is a semi-historical, 14-mission static campaign, set during the summer of 1917, portraying the aerial fighting over the front in France in the early summer of 1917. The campaign contains a typical set of missions: patrols, escorts, interceptions, fighter sweeps and balloon busting. You are a young German pilot fresh out of flying school, sent as a replacement to one of the most famous fighter squadrons on the Western Front, Jasta 5. And you will be flying the great Albatros D.III, that comes courtesy of AMT & OAW!

You can download it here: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=1551

And for those having problems with Mission4Today, try this link: http://speedy.sh/3Xb2Q/Westfront-1917.zip

Note that the most missions in this campaign contains a random element, which means that even if you replay the campaign you can never be sure to meet the same enemy at the same time etc as before. This means that some patrols will result in no enemy contact – just as in real life. (Most missions comes in three variants, the game picking one at random.)

Regarding Jasta 5: With approximately 253 victories at war's end, Jagdstaffel 5 had the third highest kill total of any squadron in the Luftstreitkräfte. Among the aces that flew in its ranks are Paul Bäumer, Hans Berr, Hermann Göring, Otto Könnecke, Fritz Rumey and Werner Voss. The units was sometimes referred to as “The Green-Tailed Devils”, due to the practice of painting the tailplanes of their aircraft green.

REQUIREMENTS: In order to play this campaign you will need DBW 1916, version 2.1. Notice that it also contains EVERYTHING you need, except the skins enclosed – but these are optional anyway.

With this campaign comes 24 skins, 19 of them are Albatros D.III skins made by Archie (using a template by Max the Hitman & textures by Phas3e), 1 Friedrichshafen G3 skin by Max the Hitman, 1 Roland D.II by Archie and 4 SPAD VII- skins by Murdoc. Thanks guys, not least Archie! Note that every Albatros in this campaign will fly in an individual, historical skin!

As a small bonus I've also added new period music ("Die Wacht Am Rhein" - in a recording made before 1914!) for the German manu, plus a new background tga.

Thanks for looking!  :)

hi Poltava :D
i am enjoying this campaign immensely, but i do have one little issue i wish to ask about...
my (player) aircraft never takes off if it is set on autopilot. the engine starts, and it waits in line happily, but when it is my turn to take off, it does nothing - it just sits there forever, makes no attempt to take off.
the solution is obviously to use manual control for takeoff, so not a serious issue. :D
it is like this for every mission so far, although i am still stuck trying to survive mission 3, lol...
does anyone have a similar issue, or know what would be causing this?
i really just would like to know why this is happening....
but, my WW1 career continues in the meantime... other than this takeoff problem, the campaign is extremely enjoyable so far.
i am using 'stock' 1916, patched up to the latest - patch 4. (NO additional mods)
thanks in advance for any explanations...   8)

I have experienced this myself, and I am convinced that  it is connected to the aircraft, not the campaign. I'm sorry Malone - you will have to learn to take off manually  ;)

thanks for the reply, mate - though i need no lessons in manual takeoff, lol - it's just laziness on my part. :D
in fact, i usually jump the queue, as i don't like to wait for my turn - i wait for the leader to start moving off, then i steer around the others, and take off with him  ;)

A small trick if you have this problem: start with autopilot, when the engine is running ok, switch off the autopilot, turn the throttle up 100%, and when the aircraft starts moving, turn on the autopilot again!

Is a version of this campaign compatible with CUP available? I have installed the DBW version, but it does not seem to agree with CUP.

Thanks,

EH
