MshConverter 1.18 by Dr Jones ~ Link Updated
« on: January 04, 2010, 02:07:52 PM »

I notice this isn't here.
Now it is ;)

link : https://www.mediafire.com/?s3q0omxpbpdpkw3
Edit Gerax: for a working link see the attached 7z file.  ;)

(Edit by CirX: I am adding these instructions from another thread, by Wolfighter and GJE52, to provide a starting point for users)
Use this process to convert an extracted binary mesh file to .3ds to allow you to use 3ds max to work on it.

Instructions

1. Select if you want the whole .msh file or just the LODs, Hooks, Collision meshes, shaddow meshes, etc, then open your binary mesh.
2. In the menu output->Other (Max) option  check "limit name to 10 chars"
3. Go into Save Options and change UV paramters into this: (this is important)

U offset 0
V offset -1
U scale 1
V scale -1

4. In the file menu chose save and put it into a temporary folder as 3ds.

5. Open 3ds max and select "Import".

6.  Navigate to your temporary folder and select the 3ds file.

It should now be ready to edit....

Nope, the game reads the text format fine. As it stands, there is no way to currently convert back to the 'hashed' format

1 question:

This MshConverter needs some Windows OS version or some .NET version?

I run this with Windows7 x64, .NET3.5, so bin-msh to txt-msh, 3ds, obj convert works well.
But 3D View/Scene doesn't work, an exception error occurs.
Another obj to msh has an exception error, too.

If this needs .NET version1.1, 1.1 isn't usable at Win7, I have to use WinXP.
Someone knows?

I am on XP and the 3D view scene is not working (it says something about Directx and the scene will never load). I have installed all the Net frameworks from 1 all the way to 4 so I don't think that the problem is related to windows 7 or XP it has most probably something to do with some recent update

Just a little thing:

I was starting a new skin from a tgb file and I managed to open it even by simply changing it's extension into tga and then open it with GIMP!

After edit the skin I change back it's extension to tgb and the game load it flawless....

Windows 7 Home Premium x64, Net Framework 4.0 and encountered the same problem as western0221 described above.
Does someone have solution to this ?

MshConverter 1.18 statically links to DirectX 9 DLLs. It has to fail on Vista (DX10) and Windows 7 (DX11).
Go grab Virtual PC 2007 and add some Windows XP or alternatively Windows 2000 virtual machine for this.
Particularly a virtual Windows 2000 machine comes in handy for some tasks which require applications and/or files not available for later OSses, like class dumps, FM works etc.

Best regards - Mike

MshConverter 1.18 works fine in my Windows7 32bit system with installing DirectX End-User Runtime and .net Framework 4.

And I can't view 3D window in Windows7 64bit system as same as you.
MS virtual PC XP-mode is not also able to load 3D view for not capable of D3D.

Nowadays I usually use this MshConverter1.18,
converting default .msh to .3ds and import to GMAX.

My GMAX set , at "Units Setup" Metric=Meters and "System Unit Setup" 1Unit = 1.0 Meters.
Then, imported meshes toooooooooo... small. about 1/45.
90m length ship is in GMAX 2m.
original .msh is 1:1 scale, in Hier.him (1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1), see text Vertices xyz 1:1:1.
Something wrong at my GMAX setup? or my operation?

I usually "Scaling" *4500% XYZ all meshes.
After this, exporting by Maraz Expoter, scale 1:1.
Umm...
