A while back I started to overhaul some of my old Bf109 campaigns (Storm over England, Malta, Libya 1941) and also started work on a Polish campaign for September 1939. Then it struck me: why not try and make one, single REALLY big campaign of all those individual ones? That required a lot of additional work, not least in the form of additional campaign segments (The North Sea 1939, Holland 1940, Yugoslavia 1941 etc).
It is a
work in progress, but I am now in the final stages, all the missions are done, it just requires playtesting. This will (hopefully pretty soon) be the end result:
It is 80 missions long, and will cover the following Theatres of War:
- The Spanish Civil War
- Invasion of Poland 1939
- North Sea Battles 1939
- The Phoney War 1939-40
- Invasion of Holland May 1940
- Battle for France 1940
- Battle of Britain 1940
- Battle over Malta 1941
- Campaign against Yugoslavia 1941
- North African Battles Summer of 1941
A note of my design philosophy in this case:
- Only historical aircraft and historical maps are used. You get to try most of the early 109's, from the B2 to the E7
- The unit you follow is a sort of composite of several German Luftwaffe units. Most missions are based on history. Rather than following the exact doings of a single Geschwader (there are already several great campaigns around that tries to do that) I have tried to give the player a sense of how it could be like to be a Bf 109 pilot during these years. It of course follows the actual course of the battles and campaigns portrayed.
- It has been designed to run both in HSFX and/or DBW, stock versions.
- It will require NO additional MOD downloads and installs - it's a sort of minimalist approach.
- It uses default skins wherever the result is satisfying historically and visually, but it also comes with a number of skins that can be easily installed.
- I have started working on a sequel called "Years of Struggle", portraying the years of 1941 to 1943, starting with Operation Barbarossa, and ending with the aerial battle in the west during mid-1943. But that is just a pretty loose project right now. So many new wonderful MOD's, so little time...
If anyone would like to help me playtest it, that would be a GREAT! Nothing fancy, just a quick play-through to see that the players aircraft is correct, skins and markings tally, the intro movies work etc. Just PM me.
