A little tweak for Dgen Campaigns
« on: September 25, 2012, 11:42:11 AM »

Hi all.

Some of you may already know this. Since patch 4.11.1 we have the realistic Engine overheat feature in IL2. This very accurate and big step forward to add more realism to the Game.

So far,so god,but now is it nearly impossible for DGen Players to stay in formation with your squad or escort & intercept bombers without getting a constant engine overheat. The Ai has only a simple flight model and is not very affected by this realistic feature..but YOU!  :D

OK,here is a small solution for this:
I changed the cruise Speed parameters for all Planes for both theaters,Europe & Pacific via tweaking the EuroPlane and PacificPlane Text files to a more realistic and engine friendly level.
Most of the Fighters/Fighterbombers now should have a cruise speed around 300-320 Km/h

Installation:
Easy, just download the the new Text files, search in your DGen folder for the PacificPlanes & EuroPlane Texts and make a copy to a safe place. Then replace it with my files. That´s it!

Version 1.1 corrected HBomber entries.

Europe:

Pacific:

Tested with 4.11.1,HSFX6 and Asura´s new DGen Mod.

Have Fun!  :)

It's not a good idea to change the speed settings for the HBomber entries. When the speed is changed, B-17, B-24, B-29 etc. will have problems to keep their close formations and one flight will loss contact with the rest of the formation.

Nice effort, but all those few hundred scripted campaigns at m4t need to be edited too which would be an impossible task for any person. Enjoyr Dgen patches (a must have for every offline dgen campaign player) also need to be rewritten. Unfortunately I got 0% clue about dgen campaigns so I'm kinda stuck with my Enjoyr 5.2 + BoE+Ostfront on DBW 1.71/ 4.10 config. Thanks TD!

Enyor´s patch can´t be rewritten cause it´s not the content from enjoyr - it´s from various campaign builders.

Changing the speed parameter is also not a good idea, cause it changes the campaigns massive and dgen.exe does sometimes generate missions where the player misses the enemy planes because of the changed speed.

Thanks for the input Boelcke!
What I meant is that the patches need to be adopted for 4.11 by somebody.

Btw what version are you using for your dgen's, 4.10?
Is there a solution for the problems caused by 4.11?

hmmmm...maybe you´re right. The point is we have to try this out,I generated a lot of missions in different campaigns in the last days and I didn´t encounter any problems with missing enemy flights.

Guys, please try this  new settings in different campaigns and if you see issues like Boelke mentioned above please report it.

Otherwise I see no chance in the short of time to deal with this speed/overheat struggle.  :-X

Yes,you are absolutely right.Seems to me that DT develop those realistic features for the human players, but in many aspects they have forget to tweak the Ai to match with the new players plane behavior. Thanks TD!

I don't think there will be problems with missing enemy flights in the stock campaigns when the EuroPlanes and PacificPlanes files are changed, but there will be issues with some of the user-made campaigns when someone dicides to change the speed settings in the map specific planes files. I guess that's what Boelcke meant.

My Solomon Islands, Home Defence and Norway campaigns are good examples. It took a lot of testing to find the best speed settings to avoid missing the enemy flights, so changing them should be avoided. I have already created files with lower speed settings for the next updates of my campaigns, they will be released over the next month.

Not true by the way.

from the 4.11 readme.......

"AI plane's engine will overheat forcing AI to reduce throttle and open radiators"

check the pdf....
