Changing the Pop-Up distance of Palm Trees

In response to a problem Bee was having on the Rabaul Map I made this small mod.
This changes the pop-up distance for two palm tree objects.
3do/flora/palms/LiveAg1.sim
3do/flora/palms/LiveAg2.sim

These are now visible out to 1000m.
The LOD0 distance has been reduced slightly to compensate fps
In our tests no noticeable difference in fps has been seen.

This mod is included in the HSFX6.1 Hot-Fix

Wich "hot Fix" did you mean?? Is it already out? can`t find it on the 242 Squadron homepage.

Edit: and of course thanx for changing the Palm tree pop-up distance.Well needed.  ;)

Perhaps I should say will be in the Hot-Fix, --- which I think you can expect soon.

I've changed to 200,400,4000 and still very good FPS on my old rig.

Test with ~1600 palms

Cracking little mod ashe, well done mate.  I have hiked the distances to 4000m as well with no noticeable drop in fps.

The existing in game palm tree lod's have always been an annoying feature of the game for me, is there any way we can extend this mod to improve them as well ?.

Fantastic mods this.  The palms were optimised for your average P2 computer back when AEP came out and haven't seen an upgrade since.
I'm very curious how you guys are opening the mesh files in notepad and changing the distances.  Is there a tutorial for this anywhere?  Give a man a fish and all that.  There are several other key objects I'd like to improve if given a chance.

Edit: ah! Dr Jones I presume.  Now where's my sfs extractor...?

Yeah, asheshouse, but how should I know how that translates ingame aka FMB+ :D:: Sorry, but I just started to get the basics of map edits in unlocked FMB a few days ago. Before that all I knew was how to mod installs and edit textures. ;)

3do/flora/palms/LiveAg1.sim
3do/flora/palms/LiveAg2.sim
where not on my mind since in all but one of all my installs the palms I could see in 3DO where e.g. the Egypt ones or such hidden in SFS files.
So I was referring to their ingame name. In the normal objects list in locked FMB they're just numbers.
I found one of those LiveAG1/2s in a Classic mod install under palms1 in my 3DO, so I assume that LiveAG1/2 is their respective name in the unlocked FMB list.  Onlydid  not find them in my DBW install in FMB+.

Your on the right track.
In Dr Jones MshConvertor ensure all subfolders are ticked then save as txt.
You can now edit in NotePad  -- But I use TextPad ,  much better text editor.

yes, indeed...sfs extractor, Dr Jones msh converter, IMF viewer for tga converting....these are all the golden bricks on the path to the Wizard of Mod :D

oh, and another much better option than regular Notepad, is EditPad, or EditPad Lite, which i use.
once you use this, or Textpad, you will never really want to use silly old Notepad ever again... 8) 8)

Cheers Malone, you just answered my question (above), I had forgotten I knew how to do that .... if brains were plastic explosives I would have enough to blow the end off my pencil !!!!    ::)
