If i wrote a Med campaign
for the P-38 F...
and called that an official Campaign ...
and sold it for proper money on a CD...

could i do that?
without getting in the way of anyone?

i mean like.... would you nuke the shit out of me?

From my limited knowledge and experience from modding, it seems to me that mods are given to the community as open source.   The skins and templates, the missions, effects, etc would all need to be of your own design and making, before you could do that, else you are profiting from someone else's labor.  If it sounds like I'm riding both sides of the fence (Failing to take a side), I would say you are correct.  This is a slippery slope.  I would advise against it.

Benitomuso's method seems more appropriate.  Original material submitted to the community for free, but advanced features are unlocked upon given a donation.

My 2 cents.  Interesting situation.  Regards.

I can give a similar example, I create Graphics or Fonts for use under Open Source, free to download etc.
Most of the people use it properly. A common shared licence agreement a lot creatives use, sounds like this:
give me examples of your work at least and/or, if you want to use commercially, please ask before.
You would have gone one step too far, clever and foreseeing trouble of course.
Writing hundreds of Mails, contacting people, to contact people, waiting months, when money winks?
Sth. I can't accept, by any means, No.

Did you ever built a campaign before?

Nobody sells just one campaign rather several campaigns with 100+ missions, for example:
-810 mision + 20 hight quality custom skins  for 18 USD @ wwiies.com
-similar offer: 500 skins + 9 campaigns + printed manual + map for 37 USD @ desastersoft.com
There must be custom skins too, but where will you get the quality templates?

Also, I do not advise calling it 'official'.

on this subject, i just went and fished out an old boxed copy 'expansion' i bought a few months after the original IL-2 was released, came with a nice box with coverart in the same vein as the original game - i paid for this expansion the same amount as the original game! it goes by the name 'Eastern Thunder'
it was done by Just Flight, and consisted of a whopping 28 new missions, and 5 new skins!  ::)
all that, for the same price as the original game. needless to say, a bit of a rip-off, if you think about it.
then again, the game was so new at the time, there wasn't really anything else available, so i duly paid.
and that's what it boils down to, i guess. if you think you'll get enough buyers, go for it.
personally, i'd still hit the big red button, though... 8)

The question is not a practical one at all.
I wont build such a thing.
i saw something out there and am asking myself:
is this not over-doing it?

There is a Product out there that features an F-Lightning.(This means It incorporates Mods and modacts... possibly needs a mod package? ...builds upon what the community has worked.)

The Product is sold for cash (the campaign comes on a physical media)

the creator of said campaign says on Facebook "it is an official Campaign"

Seeing all this made me have the same reaction as malone "STOPPPPPP LIKE WTF U DOIN?"

Product
-needs mod
builds upon community work, in this Case AAA1.1, HSFX4.1 and UP3RC4)

-needs payin'
as such okay, product is product, that is all right with me, but builds upon community work? community work is illegal by definition, what does 1C say? what do the UP guys say? what about the techs that made HSFX 4.1? are they okay with that situation of someone making a buck off their work?

-sez its an official addon
for 1C and Ubi to take a look at - i also posted this question at banana forums

======================================
This is still a question, although i view the subject with a whole lot of spontaneous criticism
...i am not about to nail anyone to a cross - yet. Not for myself, not in public.
Products like these do not interest me, for a wide range of personal opinions.
I understand that.
Still...
is it okay?

This is a morally comletely twisted sitiuation, and my reflex is to Punch the Guy.
ah... WWIIes unfriended me on facebook. i guess that says enough.

Ask a lawyer and he will tell you: "Well, it's illegal first hand, but who should sue him for this and what for?"
Personally I just don't care. If he really earns money from it: Poor morons who paid for such kind of stuff, but people pay for ring tones as well, so where does the nonsense start and will it ever stop? Shall I be upset about it? I guess no.

I don't care about it. :)
I think it's OK to make campaigns and missions for sale.
It's like you making a drawing in your licenced Corel Draw and try to sell it.
I will not buy it, but if someone will, it's OK to me too.

My 2 cents. ;)
