Taking cover now!

no need.
in the long term, and agreeing with the way you see the situation, your train of thought is understandeable.
but the amount of work involved...

New simulator: DCS P-51

This new simulator looks and sounds very good. If only there were more aircraft around, but who knows...

Quite, the jury's out rather. Leastways, I would say that - I remain skeptical, while those who are large fans of the series already maintain it'll be great. It more depends on what you want out of it, I think.

See here, the subject's been done to death:

The million dollar question is just how much better is the physics modelling in DCS P-51 compared to IL2 and Il2:CLoD scripted efforts.

I have already read that DCS Mustang flips over due to torque if one quickly increases power, obviously both IL2s have torque that is nothing like that. Just one of many examples.

The DCS Mustang is a blast to fly. Got it last weekend and IMHO (which doesn't mean much) it's what the IL2 P51 should have been. Finally, this plane flies like all the Pilot descriptions I've ever read.

Easy to say, far better ???. I haven't fly it yet, but only seeing the videos is pretty evident physics in general and much closer to real wolrd than any Il-2. I always had a weird feeling on Il-2 about that, after years of simming you get used to it, but now I fly a real aircraft and seeing the videos, that demos over airfield, that movements, that inertias :o, that landings... that's a real aircraft mate, Il-2, or CloD it's the same for the subject, are simply crap in that. DCS engine is far (far far away) better on that and CloD (the new from 1C) probably could never match that simply because "they have to rewrite the source code", but well, we know may be they do that in two weeks :). And not only physics, even the point of view in Il-2 is weird, now seeing DCS point of view in a P-51 you can say that's what you see on the real aircraft, and the feeling of altitude over ground, it's the weirdest thing on Il-2, nothing to do with real life (on that FS always beated IL-2 by far), now see the video and "feel" how aircraft leaves ground from cockpit... It's simply gorgeous... and that's the real thing.

It's a shame you only have one aircraft (but I have seen the first mod, a Fw-190...), and probably they don't want to compete with 1C, but DCS engine is far better now we can compare prop to prop and would be a great WWII sim if they start it.

Funny how things go, I remember when everyone vaunted how topping IL2 FMs were.
