1/48 Revell SBD-1 Dauntless
« on: February 23, 2012, 08:27:09 PM »

Here's my model I'm working on right now. Comments and tips welcome and encouraged! Although I'm somewhat new to modeling planes, so be nice! :D

This is right after we (as in me and my Dad) painted it:

Then I added details and touch-ups to the landing gear, cockpit, and engine, along with some weathering :

Dive brakes still need a lot of touch-ups:

The bomb-release works!

So that's it so far!

Looks good thus far, will you consider drilling out the holes in the dive brakes?

Yes, I want to. I'll need to see if I have any tools that could do it easily.

See if you can find a pin vise to do it by hand. Barring that, a dremel used on VERY LOW speed will also do the trick. Probably better due to the sheer number of holes!

Yeah, I think that's what I'm gonna do. I just hope I don't break it!  ::)

Even easier, take a new X-acto blade and just spin it inside the holes (quick and easy, you just need to set it at the exact center)

I once made an SBD-1 in this scale. If I am not wrong it was a Hasegawa´s kit. I would recomend to look for Tamyia, Hasegawa or Dragon models. Most od their kits have panels and rivets in low level, which gives the entire model a more accurate look.

I pierced the air brake holes using a hot needle, but it took time to even them all. If the kit was still unpainted it would be better.

So far you are doing fine, good work! ;)

I pierced the holes in the dive brakes using an X-Acto knife. They may be a little too big, but, considering it's my first time it's not too shabby!  ;D

Anyway, I've been busy with homework so I haven't worked on it much recently, but right now I'm working on the canopy. ::)
So It's almost done! I'll get some pictures later. 8)

For sure Sloppy, dont get sloppy with your HW as it should come first :), then you can relax and continue crafting your superb model. ;)
