Fi-156W-3 v2.1
« on: December 30, 2011, 02:45:14 PM »

In a recent effort to make this just a little bit more professional, I have completely redone this post-

This is my first released mod, and I am glad to release the Fieseler Fi-156W-3! It's not the greatest, but I decided to apply all of the tutorials I've seen into this strange aircraft. I decided to add a little bit of a story to it...  :P

In 1941, recently after the sinking of the mighty Bismarck, the Kriegsmarine was desperate for a reconnaissance aircraft capable of being launched off of a catapult of smaller vessels. Of course, there was already the Ar-196, but it was quickly discovered in testing trials that this aircraft was just too heavy to be successfully launched off of destroyer-sized warships. Eyes were quickly turned to the STOL capabilities of the Fi-156 "Storch". Haphazardly put together in a U-boat hangar from a retired Fi-156 prototype and a salvage yard Ar-196, this beast was a sight to behold. With Ar-196 floats welded on to the landing struts of the '156, she was instantly tested, and it was quickly discovered that the initial STOL capabilities were still there. A few weeks later, the first true production variant rolled off of the Fieseler lines. Discovered to be able to withstand the forces of a catapult launch, and also able to quickly gain altitude, the Fi-156W-3 was pressed into service with the Kreigsmarine.

Updates:
[Version 2.1]
+Fixed rear gunner not firing
+Fixed flaps randomly retracting
+Fixed bobbing issues when in water

[Version 2.0]
-Removed wheels inside of floats
+Added rear gunner
+Added new float textures

[Version 1.0-8]
This was just a testing run for me, before I decided to release it at Version 2.0. Extra history shall not be included.

Download- (Downloading discouraged, please wait for update.)

Hi SilverFox23.  Have just found your conversion of the Storch to a floatplane - very interesting!  Since you are obviously good at modifying the Storch, could I ask you to have a look at my posts under the Cockpit/modified flyables section - mine is the last post on this section - and perhaps have your thoughts on the subject?
I have been unable to find any reference to a floatplane conversion in Google - the ski mod is common - but possibly the extra drag would degrade the performance too much.  But then anything is possible in a simulation!
Regards,  ChrisD

Hello all,
Just posted to say that my Fi-156 is going into testing for 4.10.1 with 3.06 Modact. I should post the results soon. (I might even change the logo.)  ;D

This works perfectly in 4.12.1 with Modact 5.20, with the exception of the elevator motion malfunctioning. I'm assuming this is a hier.him issue, in which case I can upload a fix.

I'm glad at least someone thinks so...  ;D
But I'm actually quite the failure at modding, you'll quickly find that this mod isn't even worth the download.  :-\

It's definitely worth the download. I remember installing this as one of the first mods I ever got. You should be happy with the fact that this is one of the few mods that works in all Modact versions from 4.08 to 4.12.
