Spitfire MKIX New 3D/Slots
« on: October 03, 2011, 04:30:01 AM »

A version of the Spitfire MkIX that uses 3D from the Spit VIII model and parts from the MkVIII based Spits. Includes slots equivalent to all stock Spit IXs, opening canopies and FMs with corrected trim values (to fix how TD borked the Spit FMs in 4.10  ;)). Uses DiffFM. 4.09 FMs are included but haven't been tested.

Skins

Any C wing skin can be used on any of the C wing versions, same for the E wing skins and versions. Skin folder names from the first part of each planes air.ini entry. MkVIII skins will mostly work, but there will be errors on the fuselage.

Apologies for how long this mod took to release, entirely my fault ;)

Is that the correct rudder for the MK IX ?
The Merlin 61 and 63 versions have the earlier rounded rudder, the rest have the pointed rudder.

All this is great and these may be the best spits we saw so far in IL-2 but after installing them to DBW 1.6 I had crashes similar to the ones I had in my old AAA 9.3 when I reached the limit of 64kb in my air.ini. That is a sudden frozen screen when I fly and then the only solution is to reboot. Then I deleted from the air.ini about a dozen planes (however these were either stock, or non-stock but included in the ultrapack 3.0, does this make any difference?) but the problem remained as it was. Difficult to believe that I reached a limit again with the omissions I have now a 54kb air.ini. Possibly there is particular classfile that is causing the problem.
It's a pity because I find that they look and fly better than the stock IXs.
I suggest that they should take their place as stock in the next UP release.

I installed the VIIIs (where are they? I thought I downloaded them from SAS) and I had again the same problems. I 'll leave spitfires for now and go for other planes. It's frustating the idea that this may be the limit and that's it, since in 4.09m I have at least 40 more entries.

We'll have to remember that number of plane slots is not the only factor affecting the Java memory limit. The limit is for permanent Java object memory, and at least all Java code in IL-2 should fit there. In v4.101m we got significantly more Java code because of MDS, navigation, torpedoes and many other features, so v4.101m can take less modded content on top of that. Then now we have more unique cockpits instead of just borrowing cockpit from other plane without any changes, and all those cockpits use some memory just like Mission PRO, missiles and all other classfile mods.

Anyway, I hope to see a version of this mod that just replaces stock Spitfires and their classfiles. That version wouldn't cause any issues with Java limit since it doesn't add more Java code.

Something must be done about the Java memory limit!! I added very few things on top of the stock DBW 1.6 - that are A-26, B-26, Early B-25s, Wellinghton, some Bf 109s from v2.1 (left out in 3.1) and P.24. I cannot think of anything more pressing regarding the IL-2 community right now. It's not for me of course, I am full of IL-2 experiences since 2002 (man, almost 10 years) but for all these people that they work on modding.

Just gopt around to trying these. Really look nice!

Will you be refining the model further? Such as where the engine and fuselage come together?
