Something about this fb_hfxsounds.sfs file (101,013) makes the deep growl of the Bf-109 engine sounds drop out frequently for no reason when playing the bf109 vs p-39 track (stock track). But the gun sounds are VERY low.

I have one that is different in size where this doesn't happen (99,802).

Anyone else notice this?

3/6/12 - Re-installed the OS, installed Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 with patches up to 4.101, HSFX5.01 and used the current (larger) update files. And everything sounds great (including the 109)

Yes I have the same problem with HSFX 5.01. I fixed this way. Use the old smaller one in order to keep the Me109 sound ok then for the guns I use the Fusion Sound Tweak HSFX5 V.7 . Go to www.fusionpack.net where you find several mod packs for HSFX5. I "cleaned up" that sound pack using only the guns sound but you can keep the whole pack if you like just dropping it in the MOD folder, the instructions are included.
It works very well for me.

Thanks TICI,

..some pretty nice stuff in that Fusion Sound Tweak.

The battlefields on my missions now sound like Ares has been unleashed on earth! :)

No problem, anytime. In the fusion pack there are other cool stuff you can use.

I just use part of it for what I need and it works flawless in HSFX 5.01 with the other mods I have. I don't know about the rest of it because with the mods I use they were not needed.
