P-40A
The P-40A designation was skipped in the initial designation assignments. However, it was applied retroactively to P-40 Ser No 40-326 when it was converted to a camera-carrying photographic reconnaissance model at Bolling Field in March of 1942.

To adapt this aircraft to be lighter for armed recon, the 2 engine mounted gun remained while loadouts on the wings were removed. This was made upon a request in the unarmed P-40 Recon thread. https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,2522.msg26012.html#msg26012

I think you do Gaston. You introduced us to the unarmed version when some of us didnt know about the unarmed version. I would have never thought of this variant without your help ;)

Thank you for helping me on the credits though.

It didn't have engine armouring, magazine armour of course, seat armour or self sealing tanks either. In 1941 actually the Me-109E and RAF Spit/Hurricane in response to the Germans were the only front line fighters with any real armouring. The P-40B was the first non-navy, land based US fighter to feature these additions which were a result of a formal request by the RAF to Curtiss AC before it would accept Tomahawk deliveries. It was the whole reason behind the P-40B, so the main difference between this and the P-40/P-40A is the lack of armouring or self sealing tanks.
Technically this should make the earlier ones quite a bit faster and roughly a ton lighter, but not much harder than a Zero to flame or take down.

Here are two skins that I reworked a bit for the P-40A Recon. I added the camera to the skin and covered the gun holes in the wings but all credit should go to the original makers of the skins Macwan Skins and Leadspitter and to anyone I may not have known who worked on these skins.

I in no way take credit for these. I just want to share them for your fun.

These are ment to look like a field modification.
