WWI Tank Pack - Part 1
« on: December 26, 2010, 03:53:31 AM »

Part 1 of the pack contains a selection of the most important British tanks, the MarkI (1916) first used on the Somme, Mark IV (1917), the principal tank at the Battle of Cambrai and the Whippet Mark A Light Tank, introduced in 1918.

The Whippet model is all by Loku.

Moving, static firing and static dormant versions are included.
Unzip the download to Desktop and Copy and Paste the WWI_Tanks folder into your Mods folder.
Installation instructions are included in a text file in the folder.
Text edits are required to chief.ini, technics.ini, stationary.ini and technics_ru.properties. Text required is included in the instructions.

This mod has been checked with SAS ModActivator 2.5beta.
In the technics.ini if you have no //GB Tanks section then simply add one at the end of the //Tanks section.

Download here:  https://www.mediafire.com/?j69b0i7ock6wcl1

Part 2 is in progress and is planned to include the A7V (1918), Renault FT-17 (1918), Lanchester Armoured Car (1914) and Beutepanzer IV (1918).

Others to consider are the Schneider CA1, the Saint Chamond and the machine gun armed (female) versions of the MkI and MkIV. If anyone can think of other tanks which actually saw operational use then let me know.

The British MkII (1917), used at the Battle of Arras, was similar to the MkI but had the tail removed, this feature having been found to be pretty ineffective. MkV (1918) was the last major type to see use. This was initially similar to the MkIV but later MkV* and MkV** versions were 2m longer. Some of the MkV's were built as "Hermaphrodites", with a 6pdr gun on one side only and machine guns on the other side. MkIII, MkVI and MkVIII were not used operationally. In 1917 onwards the early MkI and MkII's were converted to supply vehicles to follow behind the main assault with fuel and ammo. This involved removal of the guns and provision of storage racks on the roof. Some MK1's also became wireless vehicles fitted with a tall wireless mast.

Due to restrictions in the existing class files only one gun is working on each tank. There are no existing tanks or gun batteries in the game which have multiple guns. I hope this problem can be overcome if a Java expert takes interest, but its beyond my capabilities at the moment.

Hi mate!

Thanks for the update!

Did you rework the class files?

I'm asking because I'll try to test all the vehicles from 4.09 to 4.10 and such information can be can be useful!

All the best!

No changes to the class files were required.
Apart from the comment about the //GB Tanks section in technics.ini there are no changes to the installation.

I copied and pasted the WWI_Tanks folder from my 4.09 install to the 4.10
and similarly copied and pasted the ini text entries into the new *.ini files
No big deal really.

WingFlyr's tanks are set up in exactly the same way as the WWI tanks I (I did the class files for them)
-- so they should transfer across in exactly the same way, but I've not tested them yet.

Hi mate!

Thanks for the reply!

I have installed your WWI tank and all work fine!

After lunch I'll begin to import the full object list from 4.09 to 4.10....after I'll start with map , tank and ships!

Have you some suggestion about speed up the test?

These are on hold at the moment.
However there may be an FT-17 coming from another source which may be some compensation.

To debug the problem remove (or disable) all the WWI tank entries in technics_ru.properties and stationary.ini.

The technics.ini entries can all stay in place but disable all the WWI tank entries in chief.ini

Keep all the model folders in place.   Mods/3do/Tanks/.......

Game should now launch ok, but with no WWI tanks.

In chief.ini enable the entries for WWI_Mk1m only.  --- does it work?

If not check the folder structure for the models.
Then re-check the text entries in chief.ini -- in two places.

Should work either in 4.09 or 4.10.1
Which version are you installing to.

To get a single version of the Mk1m working you just need to have these entries
in two places in chief.ini and in technics.ini

Code: [Select]
Text entries are as follows:

//Chief.ini  --- in two locations

//before [VEHICLES]

[WWIArmor]
 moveType VEHICLE

I presume that this package don't work because are missing the related class files.
There are not class files in the download, so the game ctd at 70%.
Can anyone verify?

Thanks in advanced.

ALL these tanks are rolling and working with the DBW-1916 (the World War One version of the IL2-1946+Mods)
More will arrive one day soon  ;)
