The Battle of Britain just does not hold any interest to me in the realm of flight sims - always with the Spits and Bf-109's - nice planes for sure, but I like the more obscure and ramshackle aircraft, something out of the ordinary, something completely different. And of course exotic and far away landscapes with lots of hills, mountains, valleys and wadis ...

So I'm pretty certain that CoD will not change my activities that much in map making. At least I hope not, now that I am getting the hang of it ...

Why not make Leningrad un-destroyed? It can be destroyed in Missionmaker FMB by campaign-maker.

If the map-maker has already destroyed it, then there is no way to change this.

I've looked at kapteeni's work on Leningrad so far, and only small parts of it are with destroyed houses ... it looks rather nice that way. Especially since by using Destroyed WWI buildings, this gives a different look than by using the brush ...

We also made a template for destroyed villages, which will be used near the front lines. This gives a nice sense of desolation and destruction.

We've also added very extensive trench systems in a few areas, and the Balmoral/White Sea Canal. Up north, the landscape is virtually deserted, but there are lovely formations of hills that break up the horizon.

It will be a huge map, but thanks to some effective popping, it looks like it might be ready faster than we thought.

A few screenshots of the northern landscape - far away from habitation or towns ...

I was thinking about that, but we have undestroyed Leningrad already.  Most of the city is still undestroyed as Agracier wrote.

I'm not sure what will the furure of IL2 mapmaking be. If CoD has that terrain editor which Oleg described once, It would be awesome. I have my doubt's though.
Il2 is getting a bit old anyways.

And with Team Daidalos patches it is a mess to make  maps work like they used to do...
We'll see!

Whatever your opinion is on the 4.10 the WIP you´re showing is outstanding!! It looks a lot like my native northern swedish inland villages and towns! Makes me kinda' homesick!!
Beautiful work!

I'm using 4.10 at the moment. Are you from Sweden?
Those villages do look very scandinavian... And yet they are mostly made by Agracier, who lives in Belgium. ( I send a book of Finland above to him).

Some more screen shots - of destroyed villages near the front lines, of Oranienbaum and the palace complex, and a power plant on the Svir river
